5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I know there is a light indicator for low gas warning. A friend of mine had rented a camry in the summer and told me that on top of the light indicator for the empty gas tank, the car makes beeping sounds when the gas is super low and just about to run out....is this the case?
has anyone experienced this? is there beeping following the low gas indocator being on? I haven't wanted to try it out yet....for obvious reasons!

It does not beep. We have run down most Toyotas at work and they just stop running.

Don't know about Canada but my Owners Manual says you will get a MIL when the tank runs empty.
I have 4.2-4.3 gallons left when the indicator light comes on and 3.1 gallons left when the needle hits E.
i think i saw a Seinfeld episode like this once...how far can you drive on "E"? I never tried to find out. I dont know what sort of idiot would need such a beep to tell you when to fill up...i just put gas in the tank at 1/4 full at lowest, dont you?
I saw a person with a 07' camry put 67L (17.7 US gallons) without using other container or overspill. That person drove his camry to gas-station (not being towed). So, guess you still can travel at least 150km/90miles after the gas-light comes on. I personally would not recommend to do so.
I simply take the low gas light as a reminder that I shall soon look for a gas station but w/o panic. I think that it what its supposed to be, i.e. plenty in the tank left to the next gas station even on the highway.

I do all the time. I drove about a 100 before in a 4cyl LE.

90-100 miles once the light comes on? I would of thought on average 30-40 miles before its sucked dry. I guess each car has its own sensitivity on gauging the tank.

4.2 gallons (left when light comes on) x 27 mpg = 113 miles.
I wouldn't purposely drive that far but you don't have to panic and find the first gas station when the low fuel light comes on.
I've driven 70 miles past the low fuel light just one time and put in 16.965 gallons.
However, I've always heard you shouldn't drive a car until you suck the tank dry becuase you'll also suck any dregs in the bottom of your tank into the engine.
Mind you, I have no proof of that, just that I've always heard it.
That for the most part is true, but the pump is also cooled by the fuel.
when you talk about the dregs, you may also get more moisture from condensation as well in the remaining fuel.
When the fuel level drops to trigger the lamp (near E mark) the remaining is called reserve capacity... before there were fuel gauges, the engine would sputter, and you switched over to the reserve tank and gassed up.
