5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Got them done a couple days ago. Just now had a chance to post up some pics. Install was pretty easy. And the price was right. Got them NIB from a lady off of craigslist for $325. The headrest post width was to large for her MDX.
Only took a few pics...
Middle of install... In this pic the colors don't seem to match but they look better in person. The only noticeable difference is the OEM seats have more of a shine to them. But some armor all fixed that.
All done... Kids are happy and so are the wife and I. The kids are real quiet now when in the car
I'm happy with them so far. They have lots of features for the price. They run about $380 shipped from ebay. Here's a link to some on ebay if anyone wants to check em out... Ebay link
Looks good. Did you hook them up that you can watch the same movie on both? How does the FM transmitter work, okay quality? Also, did you simply hook 'em up to a 12 V source or went to the battery with a intermediate fuse box?
I am shopping since a long time to find the right set and almost be at a point to do my own headrest install to get the OEM look.
Is it just the monitors ? or is there a built in dvd player? I cant seem to find the source for the video so im guessing you just pop a dvd into it ? and for sound is it through headphones?

From the looks of the eBay auction that he linked to....the DVD player is under the monitor. So you simply lift/pop the monitor up and place the DVD and close the monitor.
I've looked at them but most for sale have a 5 minute warranty.

OP:
Monitors look good though.
Crutchfield charges you 699$ just for the Apline headrests (they are not that good just name) w/o DVD, headphones, install etc. I quoted them to compare and they came up with $1599 total. At this cost of $380, I can replace 4 sets and still be at the same price as crutchfield or Myron and Davis. Therefore, their is no extended warranty.
Also, other internet sellers do have 1 year warranty - not that I would bet on it to be easy to return.
those head rests look awesome. Let us know if they get really warm -- my friend had a pair on a benz and they burned out since it got too hot. it almost caught on fire and smoldered a bit.

I haven't looked into the price of headrest monitors yet. But I will say, that if you were quoted $1600 from Crutchfield, and you only spent $380 somewhere else.....good deal. More money for you to free up for your next mod.

Edit: Are these real leather or vinyl?
I have them setup to play their own DVD's or the passenger side can display what the drivers side is showing. FM transmitter works pretty good. Better than I expected. And there's 4 different frequencies to choose from if one is overpowered by a regular station. I tapped into the power outlet in the center console. And they have their own fuse box about 6" from where you supply them power. As for OEM look I'd give them a 7 out of 10. Most people wouldn't be able to see the small things but I'm a part time perfectionist, so I notice. But for the price I was willing to go this route.

They each have their own DVD player.
And for audio they both also have their own built in speakers, IR output for wireless headphones, FM transmitter to hear over the radio or a 3.5 Headphone jack on the front.

I believe it. I was fortunate that the lady that bought them off of ebay also got an extended 3 year warranty ($35) through SquareTrade that she transferred to me. After reading through their verbage it seems like a good no fuss warranty. Hopefully I never have to find out

Don't scare me like that lol. I haven't noticed them getting warm at all. I routed my wires well and covered them in split loom. And I have some faith in the fuse cicuit.

As for color match it looks good. As for material it's close. At first the OEM had a shinier look compared to them. But after some armor all they look better now.

Great info - all together. I think you convinced me to try that - cheap enough for a DIY project! Btw, how did you take that plastic piece of the back of the seat? Is that simply a snap in? What does split loom mean? Sorry for the many questions - my kids are begging me.
