Gen5 Tallest Tire on a Gen 5

I got these 17" rims that I am planning to put on my Gen5 Camry. What is the tallest tire that would fit with no problems? Gen 5 has bigger body and small tires wont look good. I would like to hear from guys with some direct experience with tires on Gen 5. Thanks.

my friend back in asia a few years ago had a gen5 with stock 17x7 wheels and his tires were 215/55/17. im guessing you can do the same or maybe even 225/50/17 for a bit of a wider tire. fills the gap quite well considering the car isnt lowered.

i recently bought som 17's myself and did some research. they were brand new take offs from an avalon and i looked online and they originally came with 215/55/17 tires so i bought sizes 215/50/17 just to be on the safe side and it seems like i could have just gone for the 55 with no problems. here are some pictures for your reference. tires are nexon n3000 off ebay for about 180 shipped if you're looking for some good but great priced tires. hope the info helps

try the miata tire calculator, and adding more sidewall is going to make the rims look smaller...

i have 17's on 215/45/17 there are picts of my car, search for wonderous body kit...

hope that helps...

what do you mean by tall? do you mean the most sidewall? if so, than 215 55 is probably the most sidewall you'll get with 17's, but they will probably be too narrow if your rims are 7.5 - 8 " wide. 225-50-17 is probably your best bet anyways

i think he wants as much side wall as possible to reduce fender gap... you can probably go bigger than that, the fender wells are huge on a stock ride height and depending on the width and offset of the rim, you might be able to squeeze some fat tires up in there!!!

edit: the other thing you might want to try, is see who has the largest wheel tire combinations... i.e. find out the tire size of those guys running 22's, then plug it into the miata tire calculator as the stock wheel, and your 17's as the aftermarket and try to get it close....

Thank you everyone for your inputs and good info. Yes, what i meant was more sidewalls to fill the gap. The rims are 17/7 so seems like 215/55 will be ok.
hungboi: Those are nice looking rims you got, these are exact same ones I was considering myself but I opted for 5 spoke rims. I will post pix here when I finally put them on. I gonna look at those nexons too, I have had good luck before buying tires off ebay.

I have 17" rims on my 02 Gen5; I just changed my tires from 215/50 to 215/55 for the same reason; to reduce some fender gap. So far no problems with the slightly taller tire runs fine
