Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey. I've been using the gold bolt that holds the seatbelt assembly inside the B-pillar as a ground for my amp which I installed under my passenger seat. Is this generally a bad choice for ground? I've read that using the seatbelt bolt is not recommended in one or two amp installation manuals. I don't know if this is the same bolt that they are referring to or if they mean another bolt connected to the seat belt.
Sorry mods if I should have posted this in the audio forum but it's usually pretty dead over there.

air vents? I got an Oz Audio Matrix VA50.4 (4x50W RMS at 4 ohms). Found it for pretty cheap on ebay brand new. Fits just fine.

floor vents that are connected to the A/C i meant. Reason why I ask is I wanted to mount an amp under the passenger seat also but there is an air vent under the passenger seat and I'm kind of wary of putting an amp down there with heat blowing on it. looks like you have a gen 5 so it might be different.

The JBL amp is under the passenger seat for our Gen6...so, after market amps should also be possible to go their, what am I missing?

i'm aware of this but im still wary of having heat down there with an electrical device. Maybe I'm being just a bit over cautious but something to me just screams not a great idea for a place to install when I'm running the heater.

I always wondered the same thing.

Well, I have not investigated that in detail (I guess Toyota Engineers did) but I assume their is no heat/air directly blowing onto the amp and their is no direct contact and enough clearance between any vent housing and the amp. The JBL amp has some heatfins (I did take a look at that) to better release its own heat and thats it, I think. The JBL amp is not very big either and shaped to fit nicely in the little space.
Well the vent ducts down under the driver/passenger seats do extend out a bit to the back of the seat, don't get me wrong it's not like it'll directly be blowing onto the AMP unless you mounted it in such a fashion. I think I'm just overly worried if I invest in some low-profile self powered subs that I might be blowing my money away with the heat vents so close to the unit.
I did create a thread a few weeks ago asking if anyone did re-route the floor air vents and I'm actually working on incorporating the middle console back seat air vents that the hybrid has on my SE. It's the first part of my audio mod because I'm just concerned with buying audio yet having air (or heat) so close to my money.

Understand your approach and concerns. I would think just using the middle console vents of the Hybrid/XLE and remove the rest is probably the most straightforward way - still not easy. Good luck.
