5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Basically, whats your story? Why a Camry? Everyone says they are bland "everyone cars" but I disagree...
Lets rewind...
Back in march 07, I purchased my 2nd Mazda Miata (2004). My first one went in magazines, had about $20k in mods, etc. sold it, bought and SVT Focus built it to near 'unstreetable.' Sold it to a guy in FL, and thats how I got my Miata.
Here it is for reference sake:
A month later, actually, one month - 6 weeks later (heh heh) found out I finally did it right and got wifey prego. Fast forward to this year. Our baby-mobile is a 2003 Explorer V8. Take into account the gas prices, 11.8MPG and the fact that if we go anywhere, we have to take this beast.
I decided i had enough. $283 and all I did was drive my car to work, so imade the sacrifice, and bought a camry. I am a salesman at Jones Toyota in Bel Air, MD, so i got a pretty nice deal on the EXACT car i wanted. Black, no nav, no leather, V6. It was perfect.
so, now the Exploder sits, and we use the Camry and save big $$ on gas.
...now, as I tend to tinker with cars, this car will certainly meet my demands. I will have quite the Camry before long...
Test drove used RX-8 and s2000 (I was 18 and in high school)
All the s2ks that I drove were all salvaged, even though it came out as a clean title on carfax... I saw new paint, uneven fenders, factory stickers gone, etc.
One night in Torrance, after test driving yet another salvaged s2k, my parents got pissed off at this whole process, and took me to a toyota dealer right after my test drive w/ the s2k.
I went into the dealer at 9:30PM.
I drove away in a Magnetic Gray Camry LE by 11:00PM. I bought this car 2 weeks after it came out. Nobody had it then
btw, my parents paid for my car because I got a full scholarship to UCR and UCIrvine. I picked UCR :]

my other car was costing me too much to maintain (93 Z24 convertible) and with the monthly maintanence bill i could afford a new or pre-owned car. I was going to get a white Matrix, but i saw the Camry in the used car lot at Toyota...test drove it, bought it a day later.
dad narrowed the options down for me. he said he wants a sedan, that is non-turboed. around 30k out the door. didnt really have a choice but the camry and the accord. i thought the camry looked a little better so thats why i got it.
wanted a new car to drive to work, has to be able to drive 390 miles (3 days) on a tank w/o the light coming on.... i set my cap at 25k.......i wanted a 4 cyc and auto( so the wife could drive it )
made lists, and picked out the altima, camry as leaders. couldnt fit in the back of a altima so it was no go. got a good deal on a red se i4 auto heated leather, jbl, tc, vsc, sunroof, trd wheels, mats every option the was ava for the 4 cyc (no nav ava. at the time.)
well now for a back up story in 01 i got a 97 es 300 as a second car, my grandfather gave it to me, i already had a 98 4x4 tacoma(still do it is my work truck, and i can do the 390 miles on about 14.2-14.5gallons on average.) but after 160k and alot of hell my second gear stopped shifting in the lexus( but bone stock w/ full tank of gas it ran a 10.3, 1/8 mile), it just skipped it, drove it for 6 months i swear the shop put the wrong tranny fluid in. and decided i wanted a new car, that i trusted. about the same size so i could haul a few friends around.(would of killed for a tundra crew max, but was a little expensive and bad milage). didnt want to spend all my money on a new es350, so i got the camry, for 25xxx, almost 5 k off the sticker..couldnt pass her up...i wanted white but got red w/trd wheels, i think stock wheels clash with red. i am happy with my purchace, no problems with it so far and 7k miles. gettin 27-30 mpg(not trying to get milage.) plus it looks nice sitting in the drive way when i came home every morning

I used to have a 2001 Camry that got into head on collision going 50mph with a Chevy Camero Z28. Walking away like nothing happen made me want another Toyota Camry. The Chevy looked like crush soda can. Camry built like Tank.=-)

i didnt really have a choice of what kind of car i wanted, but they let me pick what trim i wanted... SE
wished they would of let me choose i would of gotten a impreza or legacy or civic si
but its alright, they re gonna let me have it for half the price of what they payed for it when i gradute (aug 09)... thats when imma start modding
1. Got $5000 CDN discount on my car + free rust proof
2. My brother keep on pushing me to get a Camry
3. Camry interior is bigger compare with Altima and Accord
4. Toyota cars suppose to last long.. (cross the finger)
That's why i ditched my 12 years old I30 and got this new baby (If i have $$, i'll keep my I30 )
well I have had a bad run with cars, well since.... ever. I am now 25 and have only had cars that has been given (or sold) to me by family which is a big reason why. Anyways one the cars I got from my mother was a 1996 Camry XLE, which wasn't in bad condition but after letting my family use it, it got all messed up. I had some problems with it but it never left me on the side of the road, like the 2 cars I had after I got rid of the Camry did (both non Toyotas). So I didnt have that much money and I needed a reliable car ASAP (and this was going to be the first car that I was going to finance) so from my previous expierences I was going to go back to and stay with Toyota. I was going to get a 2006 Corolla S because of my money situation but I found a 2004 Camry LE with only 27,xxx miles on it and had to get it. Now I have piece of mind and the car I really wanted, the Corolla was too small for me.
