I am trying to purchase a car buffer/polisher but not sure what's good out there. Any suggestions?

You can probably go cheap on the actual buffer but the key question should be what kind of pads have people had success with and what polishes have been used to avoid swirleys. It's pretty hard to do it right and pretty easy to mess up. You sure don't want it looking like your 16 yo son got hold of it! Who makes good pads and how many should it take to do the whole car once?

Porter Cable 7424 dual-action car polisher is recommended by professionals. Depends if you want to spend that kind of money since you are only using it once in a while.

Mothers just came out with a powerball for paint, saw a commercial for it last night watching speed channel, Mr. Foose wouldn't lie to you, might check it out since I need a good shine on the car for when I sell it.

That's definitely one of the best ones to use, very popular in many detailing forums, ranging from AutoGeek to Autopia and such. Life is much easier with a buffer.

A year ago I was looking at getting one, but they ranged from $170-220. They sure have come down in price.

My buffer and pads and chemicals my friend and I went halfsies on were from meguiars. There's a thread a little ways back showing what I was able to do with it. Magical stuff right there.
