5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
How do you remove the front rotors of a 07 Camry? It looks like there is a 12 point nut that locks on the axle that has to be removed. What is the size of the nut and is there a tq spec for that nut?
Push the brake pads back into the caliper to give some space to the rotor. Generally a very large screwdriver is good to pry with. Loosen the 2 bolts from the rear, romove the caliper and suspent it so that there is no pressure or pulling on the hydraulic line. Once clear the rotor should be largely free. That big nut holds the CV join in the wheel bearing. You don't need to mess with that. There might be a single small screw or clip holding the rotor in place, in which case remove same. Often there is nothing there and the rotor will be loose after pulling the caliper.

if it doesnt come off u can try to get a rubber mallet and hit it evenly around the rotor, not too hard though but enough so it can break apart from the rust. Anyways how come your removing the rotors? are u replacing them?
If the rotor is stuck (rusted) to the hub, there are 2 threaded holes to help lever it off and break free of the rust bonds. Thread 2 corresponding screws ( I believe they are M8 X 1.25 thread pitch) in to those holes evenly and the rotor will break free with a popping sound.

You're mostly right but you still have to unbolt the thing in the picture above they call "brake caliper mount" and remove it to get the rotor off. (This photo is not a camry disc brake but close enough.) Its held on by two bolts in the back, 19 mm i think.
The caliper comes off first. Then hold it up out of the way by tying it up with some cord or something, (don't let it hang by the brake hose whatever you do). Then remove the mount.
Again, the caliper is held in place by two bolts, removed from the back side of the caliper. Might need to turn the wheel to hard left or gith to see it better. Have the car well blocked. Pry the pads out a little prior to removing those rear bolts. They should be tight and may require a cheater bar to start.

ccb I work at toyota and this is how you remove the rotors. take wheel off and then remove brake caliper ( 2 bolts ) look on rotor, there should be two holes that have plugs in them. remove the plugs and thread 8mm bolts in holes and tighten bolts evenly until you hear a pop. rotor should be free.
I just replaced my rotors about 2 weeks ago, follow what everyone said on here and you are good to go.
As far as the prying the pads and all that, no need. Once you remove the bolts for the caliper, then the bolts for the caliper mount, they will move freely with ease.
Super easy job.

Please help! I know how to replace my brakes and rotors and I've already done the fronts for my Camry. But I'm working on the rears and the rotors will not come loose no matter what I do. I've tried threading some bolts through the holes in the rotors and popping them loose which partially worked but the rotors will still not come off. Using a rubber mallet didn't work either. Any ideas?
