Remote engine starter ?

Hi

I thought this feature is cool, espcially with the pre-set temperature mode. It is useful to have during those hot day, when i dont have to wait for the AC to cool down the temperature.

Did anyone get one of those units yet?

Let me know what you think

I thought about getting the aftermarket one. But I think it wastes gas also.

How much was it for the unit? Did you install it yourself?

Can you shed some light as to what other things the OEM version can do besides start up the car. Like what else can it control? I am thinking of getting the OEM remote start and VIP alarm.

Not sure what you expect, I have the remote key/starter combined with the keyless ignition and the VIP security alarm including window break sensors (hey, never will test that on my own). I like that I just have one remote, no key whatsoever. I programmed it to open all doors with one press of the button. Also, if you approach you car with the key in the pocket, you can simply open the door w/o doing anything. You can remote trigger alarms, open your trunk...and of course start the car remotely. What else do you expect? I have not tried more than that...if their is more? I think the A/C in the XLE remembers the last temp setting, i.e. starting the car will warm up/cool the car....etc.
Does that answer your question?...and I have a lot of security stickers around my windows - applied by Toyota, kind of funny as their are like three on the driver side alone.

I was reading what you wrote and than I was like "the SE lets you unlock doors without taking key out?!" but than I looked on your cardomain, and you have an XLE which is set up similar to that of the Prius.

My girls aftermarket remote start for her 2003 Honda Accord only cools/warms the inside of the car if the controls for the climate control are already set to that and turned on. So when the car remote starts, the AC/heater is running. So I wanted to know if the Toyota OEM lets you control it from your remote or you had to leave the controls on in the car. Hope that made sense..

Their is no A/C control on the remote...I can play some scenarios tomorrow morning to see what it is doing, i.e. like if I turn the A/C off and then restart the car with the remote (does it stay off or goes to auto A/C or so - never tested it). Will see and let you know.

so there is no such thing as preset temperature in the vehicle? you will have to turn on the a/c first, next time, you use the remote starter, it will automatically set on. If what i said is right, it is kind of silly that the unit claim can allow user preset the temperature.

I will order the OEM unit and have the audio shop install it for me. I think only the OEM unit can integrate into the default remote key.

Someone mentioned it wasted gas ? How is that so ? Normally, after i turn on the key, i usually let the car start up for 3 mins.

Like I said, I can play around tomorrow and find out various scenarios with the OEM.

Wasting gas = I think he was thinking about when people let their cars run 30minutes before leaving the house/restaurant etc.

Yes, aftermarket units have their own remote - at least from what I know and have seen.

I do not like my OEM remote start. I do like the fact that it is on your OEM key fob, but I DONT like the fact that when you unlock the car doors to get in, it cuts the car off.

As far as the AC/heat in the car. It will simply be on whatever you set it on the last time you were in the vehicle.
