Was just looking at the news and wanted to pass this on. Your radio, headlights or other parts in your car is not the first thing that popping into thieves minds. Not even the gas in your car. Its your Cadalytic Converter under your car. From what the news said, its contains small amounts of rhodium and platinum. Prices for these two minerals have jumped dramatically and costs more than gold. So thieves are hitting cars, sawing them off and selling them to junk yards for $100 a pop. They are starting to hit up dealerships now because more cars and unattended.

They hit us a couple of months ago. Tacos and Tundras.
I haven't poked my head under the car to look, but the news also said that the theifs are targeting the cars with bolt on converters. Cutting is too noisy, so they go for the bolt on type. They interviewed a muffler shop and the guy said for $20 you can get a bead of weld across the joint to keep the the theifs away.
Meh... usually, they go deep into a lot so noise isn't so much a factor. A battery-powered Dewalt recip saw isn't all that noisy anyway, especially underneath a car.

They are pros and they are using high end cutters. it takes only a few seconds to cut thru.

They showed Acura dealer, I think a Mazda dealer and even a delivery guy who delivers flowers.

They hit up dealerships at night. More cars and no one around. So a small saw would do the trick. If it was bolt on, it would take longer to take off. Just saw it off and be done. Even though its noisy, its quick and you can have at least 10 in no time. You'll be under the car taking off the bolts and by the time you're done, you're caught or only have one.

Makes sense to me. I guess the theives that the reporter was talking about were slow and stupid. I just saw a news report showing a number of delivery vans that had the fuel tanks punctured and drained of gas.
haha im lowered....you cant get under my car...and besides my cat is under my hood anyway....and thieves dont want a camry cat anyway, as its worth pennies compared to the monsters on large trucks with easily acessable cats
but this is common around my areaa....my dealership i work for has had 20 or more tundra, seqouia and tacoma models get the cats cut....this is the ne wtrend cause theres a large black market for these
