Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
One of the ladies at work has an 07 Camry and everytime it rains she gets water in the left corner of the trunk in the plastic tray. The dealership hosed the car up and down with water and can't duplicate it. Anyone else had this issue? I'm wondering if somehow its coming from the fenders, sprayed in by the tires while driving

Maybe she could figure out when it actually happens (driving, sitting flat, sitting at an angle, etc.) so that she can tell the dealer how to duplicate the problem.
Does she have a sunroof? if so, i believe the drain hoses run down over the rear wheel wells in the trunk....

To me, that seems to make sense.
She noticed it before a while back but didn't pay attention to it. She noticed again this weekend when we got rain every day and she had to go in her trunk every day. SHe kept wiping it up and the next day it would come back. She brought it to the dealer yesterday and they checked it out, hosed it down and told her nothing was wrong with it.

It certainly sucks that the dealer didn't duplicate the problem. Water and air leaks are a real pain.
She shouldn't have to isolate the problem herself but it sounds like she may have to. Have her run a hose on the trunk and see if it happens. If not, try running water on the back glass and rechecking. Have her keep going until she finds out what area of the car the leak comes from (trunk, quarter panel, rear glass, roof, etc). Maybe if she can duplicate it she will be able to see where the water comes in and show it to the dealer.
If she hasn't spoken to the Service Manager, I would recommend that she does. She shouldn't HAVE to do any work to find the problem.
I had this problem before! but ONLY once. I was washing the car liek a month after we got it. I opened the trunk and it was fairly wet and damp on the mat. I went to spray water on my car again and no more water came in and it hasnt got wet again ever since... weird

Its back at the dealer this week. THey put someone in the trunk last time and sprayed it down, couldn't find the leak. I told her to direct them to spray it again and also under the wheelwells since it may be coming from the bottom.

I think it happens after driving under rain on uneven surfaces. In some angle water can sweep through the trunk seating If that metal curvature doesn't flush with the body very well. The dealer can't duplicate on their floor on a level surface. They have to position the wheels in a diagonally opposite uneven surface to crack open the seating. She may not see water all the time even if driving under rain.. but some instance on uneven surface place those diagonally opposite wheels in different level. For example, turning on a curve, the back wheel run over the curb, so on...
I figured out that for my Nissan car long time ago, but the dealer couldn't do anything about it though it was under warranty.
Tell her to look for the Trunk alignment with the body. Does it seat very well? If that metal curvature flush with the body, then replace the weather strip, that may help.
Make sure the little space along the top edge of the molding is clean and free of debris. My car seems to collect broken leaves and pollen stamens in that area and it's a pain to clean out without spilling out into the trunk. This could dam up rain water and force a leak.

I have something similar, but on my car the water collects in the tailgate through the spoiler holes. I can only assume the factory didn't use some kind of water sealant around the holes where the factory rear spoiler bolts to the tailgate.... retards!

Take some pics to show the dealer too. But they need to duplicate the problem to find out where the problem is to fix it.
Here is a crazy idea.. spray powder all over the trunk so have it kinda sticks. This way you can trace back where the powder got wet and moved when it happen.

In my case I don't need to. When you lift the trunk you can hear the water sloshing around inside of the tailgate.

I have this exact problem with an '08 Camry, only 6 months old.
Since it doesn't rain often here in San Diego , I had thought possibly I had left a water bottle in the plastic tray that had leaked.
Then after I figured out it was the rain, I wondered if the water was getting in due to driving.
These past 3 days have been rainy here in San Diego, and I have not driven the car. When I inspected the plastic tray this morning, it was over half full with water!
It seems no one has found the answer to the original poster's question, I'll be taking the car in for the 5K mile servicing and see if Toyota can figure it out. It is weird that the mats are not wet, the water seems to go right into that plastic tray.
