According to the scheduled maintanance manual and what the tech told me oil should be changed every 5000 miles. I still don't know about that as I'm so used to changing oil every 3000miles. I got my Camry with 12 miles on it so oil change intervals I'm a little anal about.
Regarding oil weights, manual says 0w-20 or 5w-20. I plan to use synthetic(like Amsoil) for the first change. What synthetic oil do you like to use?

So sorry about that. I should've done a search as that is what I always do before starting a thread. I posted without thinking about doing a search first.

Don't sweat it. Some of use just like to harrass the newbs.
Another newb actually used the search, then dragged up a thread that was 16 months old.

Don't worry about it, I've posted without searching because I was lazy. I'll be honest.
Needing to change your car’s oil at 3,000 miles is a myth. Many cars today can go longer without affecting engine wear. Automakers are regularly recommending oil changes at 5,000, 7,000 or even 10,000 miles based on driving conditions.
Yet research conducted by the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) shows that nearly three-quarters of Californian drivers change their motor oil more often than automaker recommendations. Following the 3,000 mile myth generates millions of gallons of waste oil every year which can pollute California’s natural resources.
Do your part to help keep California green. Always check your vehicle’s user manual for guidelines on when to change your oil. It will save you money, time and help the environment too. And that’s a change we can all get behind.
