5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My name is Geoff. I am the Marketing and Sponsorship Coordinator with Extreme Dimensions. We are in need of cars for prototyping. Let me explain the process a bit first:
When we get your car, I personally do a thorough inspection of the vehicle and document any imperfections found. Any imperfections that are additional beyond what I find when you get the car back, we take care of for you. We also go over some more paperwork (that you get copies of) explaining what we are using your car for, and what you will get in exchange. We then take your car in for prototyping. Prototyping takes roughly 1-2 weeks to complete. After that stage is done, you take your car back.
***NOTE – You will NOT be getting the OEM pieces back that we use for prototyping. This is typically your front bumper, rear bumper, and side skirts. If we decide to do a hood, trunk, wing, or fenders you will NOT get those back either. So, it is best if this car is NOT your daily driver.
Once we send the parts to our manufacturer, the turn around time to get parts back is roughly 3 months.
The cars that we are specifically looking for right now from ToyotaNation.com are:
86-89 Toyota Celica
96-00 Toyota Tacoma Extended Cab
88-92 Toyota Corolla 4dr
07-up Toyota Camry
05-08 Toyota Tacoma
82-86 Toyota Supra
08-09 Lexus IS-F
02-06 Lexus ES Series
95-00 Lexus LS Series
01-06 Lexus LS Series
***This would be a fantastic opportunity, and kick off if you have dreams of getting your car into SEMA 2008 (Lexus IS-F)***
I am definitely interested and I am in Aliso Viejo, CA (not too far from Fullerton). Couple of questions:
1. Just for clarification, are you saying that you will be keeping the original part(s) that you will be replacing? Meaning that if you replace the hood with a ED part, I could not get the original hood back from you?
2. Sorry but I am not very familiar with your company and what services you offer. What kinds of things are you looking to do to/with the cars? Appearance and aesthetics only, or will you also be doing any performance mods?
3. As a car "donor," will I have any say in what you will be using my car for? Meaning, if you will are interested in developing a new hood, new bodykit, new spoiler, etc., can I request a bodykit?

That is exactly right. This is for a couple of reasons:
1) When creating a bumper we actually cut your OEM bumper in half. We leave the top portion of the OEM bumper on the car, and create the modifications from there down. This will result in the best possible fitment when we get the parts back. So in short, your OEM parts are destroyed.
2) When creating the mold at our manufacturer the parts typically get disfigured/destroyed after the first few molds have been created.

No problem at all. We are a manufacturer of aftermarket aerodynamic body pieces for numberous types of vehicles. We strictly deal with the exterior of vehicles. In other words, we do bumpers, side skirts, fenders, hoods, trunks, hatches, wings, etc.
If you have a car that would be well suited for SEMA (typically new model cars), I can personally assist you in getting more sponsorships from various other companies. I can help you get anything from wheels, to suspension, to performance upgrades. A lot of the time, companies would be using your car basically for what we are using the car for...prototyping.
3. As a car "donor," will I have any say in what you will be using my car for? Meaning, if you will are interested in developing a new hood, new bodykit, new spoiler, etc., can I request a bodykit?
Aboslutely! We ultimately want to make parts for the end user. Sure, we have an idea of what we think looks good, but by all means we are very open to hearing what you have to say. We would love to have your input at the start, and during the process.
although done by another company and for another car, this avalon is a good example of a clean widebody with all the lines flowing except for the part of the exhaust. this would be a good influence to designing a widebody kit for the camry if that was what is decided upon.
this one the other hand is a photoshop job i saw somewhere of a camry with a wide body kit. too bad it is only the side, rear shot shown
I am starting to like an "Avalon" now :-)..who would have thought. have seen the morphing video of the second pic on youtube...and they moved the front wheel forward to make the front body overhang shorter (ala BMW).
Extreme Dimensions is good stuff. I'm on the opposite coast, so I can't help. Whoever gets this, your car is in good hands, they do quality work. On the body shop fitment side, they are by far one of the best for quality - I can personally vouch for them in that respect. Outside of sponsorship/ freebies, their prices are very fair.
If you want to have my car shipped to you - Im in for that...
Not sure if anyone else has the same question as I obviously cannot donor, but when you say you don't give the oem parts back.. those are the ones that go to the manufacturer, or do the prototypes stay on the car when the person gets their car back?
Im just getting an idea of someone getting their car back and it has no bumpers and no hood and you telling them that they'll be ready in 3 months
