I am new to TN and I have a few questions about tinting. I am located in NYC and hoping someone can recommend a good shop that does tinting in Queens or the Bronx.
I am thinking of getting 35% tints on my 4 window and back window. I want something that is dark but not too dark.
1. Is 35% a good tint shade?
2. If I get the 35% on my back window will it look too dark. I dont want something to block my view. I want to have all my windows the same percentage. I dont want to mix and match two different shades.
3. Does anyone have pics with 35% tint. I would like to take a look.

Try by Shea Stadium. A pledge brother of mine said that there is a place that has a sign that says "TINTS" along the street with auto repairs. I think he said its about $100 for all windows. When I get my ride, I'm going to check it out. My gfs brother is getting his windows tinted this weekend in LI for like $70

If you want something darker and looks more black, go 15-20% all around
I have 15% on min
Too bad we cant because each state has its own laws as to how dark your tints can be. I think NYC is 30-35%
i would NOT go over by Shea.. they are really shady over there.. take cash, no warranty, etc..
NY law states rear windows can have 70% VLT on front and rear sides, and any % on rear window. Front strip can be 6" no more.
I would recommend going to the tintmax/detailing shop right off of utopia pkwy near the toyota/nissan parts dept. I havent gotten tint done there, but the place as a whole is very good. Owners name is Steve and hes a good guy.
As for personal preference on tint, i have 20% all around on my car and ive only been pulled over once a block away from my house at 2am. I got out of any type of ticket b/c i had a PBA card. I feel as long as you arent doing anything that seems suspicious/stupid, cops wont bother you. I suppose it also depends on what area you drive/live in too though. 20% can get a bit too dark at night, especially looking out the back window. In your case, 35% is good for you.
I got pulled over 4 times so far 3 times in brooklyn and one on the SSP only got a ticket once from the loser on the SSP but I beat the ticket had a my dad LT friend sign off on it within 24hrs and had it sent back to the LI courts.. Anyway I say go 20% just be careful and know your surroundings also shea stadium does pretty good quality work those mexicans do a good job only thing is you have to pay cash may I suggest buy your own tint and then take it there 3m tint is pretty good.

Probably reason why they take cash is so they dont have to file it during taxes. Not traceable. Asians do these things too. Gotta check out the place near Utopia Pkwy.
*edit* googled the name of the place and found their addy. Didnt know they were right near me and down the block from my grandparents. I'll check them out. How much they charge?

I mentioned this in another thread but I was on the GCP heading towards Meadowbrook going to work and a State Trooper just got on the hwy. There was a Scion xA about 3 cars in front of me...trooper saw the passenger side window, went behind the car, went to left lane to see driver side window, went behind it and flashed its lights to pull over. The car wasnt speeding or anything. I would just stick with the lowest % you can get to play it safe.

LMAO funny thing I was heading toward the meadowbrook on my way to work when the tropper had the nerve to pull me over and say I was doing 70 on a 55 and then said my tints were to dark... Goes to his car and comes back saying Im going to give you a break on the speeding ticket but I'll have to give you 1 for the tints I think he just wanted to pull me over from the get becuz of the tints becuz there was no way in hell I was doing 70 on the SSP when it was raining roads were shiny as hell I know better that.

I personally wouldnt trust the guys down by shea. Im asian and i still dont trust the asians down by shea.. its way too shady in that auto repair area.. with tinting, you get what you pay for IMO.
As for the tintmax, im not quite sure on the pricing. It is on the higher end closer to 180 or so, but like i stated above, i feel you get what you pay for.
I had mine done at Big A Detailing(owner is Andy). He had an older korean man come to his detailing shop(along the cross island pkwy in whitestone) and i got my car done 20% all around for 170. Only prob was it seemed he used a no name brand of tint(i couldnt tell by the box he was using) and i have a few tiny bubbles on the rear windows and a crease or two on the front windows. I have a feeling thats more my cars fault because the guy said he had to redo my front windows because the channel was very tight.

Here is mine with front at 35% (rear is at 20%) so you can see the difference - may change with lighting conditions, but generally 35% is pretty safe tint level, and I'd encourage you go for it.

I'm asian as well. I'm going to take a look at the tints my gfs brother is getting. See how much it costs and how well it is. Might go there myself and ask what tints they used.
Thanks again for the info, I'll stop by when I get my car and need tints done. I might do overlays on my tails so I might ask if they can install that for me if I bring it for them
I have 15% tint all around and I love it. Kind of wishing I got 5% on the back window though. You can see through even 15% if the lighting is right, but barely any details, and it still looks black in any light.
As far as legality goes, do whatever is within your comfort level. It might stress you out driving around an illegaly tinted car. I was told many stories by friends about cops not giving warnings anymore in LA county, and people getting pulled over for very minimal tint. It made me kinda nervous for the first few months. But I haven't been ticketed for it or issued a warning (yet), and I have been in close contact with police officers several times since I had it done last summer.
Whatever brand of tint you go with, make sure it has a lifetime warranty.
Here in Missouri, it is illegal to have anything more than 35% on the front windows. I put 20% in back and 35% in front. Even though I would love to have 20 all around, I certainly don't want to give cops another excuse for pulling me over when I'm driving home from a bar. 20% looks pitch black at night, so I would see no reason to go any darker.
I agree to not go any darker than allowed by law. Even if most cops where you live don't care, there's gonna be one or two that do. I also live in Missouri and had 20% all around and loved it. I did get a ticket for it and had the front changed to 35% and left the back at 20%. Apparently it still looked too dark cuz I was pulled over for that too, but of course once the cop checked it and it was legal, he didn't have anything to say and let me go. Here are some pics of 35% all around on my Camry. It's not as dark as I would like, but at least it won't be getting me any tickets.
