07 Camry tire PSI

Just curious what the proper tire inflation pressure is. The sticker on the door jam says 32psi, but when I went to the dealer they filled em up to 40psi. My service date was about 6 weeks ago so theres a chance they were up to 42. What should I have my tires at?

The sticker on your car or your Owners Manual is right.

Maybe somebodys gauge is wrong.

I run mine at 36 psi for a little better mileage and handling with no detrimental wear to the tires in 26,000 miles.

lets start with the basics. Did you check the tire pressure in the morning before driving your car?

The last 2 posters probably answered your question. The tire pressure listed is the cold inflation pressure. The heat generated in the tires by driving the car for a while can raise the tire pressure considerably, especially driving at highway speeds.

I also run my car at 34 or 35 PSI.

I run the maximum pressure that I can and still be comfortable without exceeding the tire manufacturer's maximum pressure listed on the side wall of the tire.

I've yet to see a FWD car wear the centers out of the tire due to over-inflation.

My tires wear perfectly this way and I also get maximum fuel mileage and tire wear.

EDIT: Car manufacturers make ride comfort a very high priority when suggesting a recommended tire pressure. It's just a recommendation and they are usually low compared to what the tire manufacturer recommends. Does anyone remember Firestone and Ford?

This is another topic that gets covered over and over again...

I'd say this a little differently:

Agreed that car manufacturers are probably shooting for "ride comfort" mostly with their recommended pressures. And agreed that it's just a "recommendation." But, I think the tire manufacturers are really just putting a "maximum pressure" rating on their tires, and not really making "recommendations" at all with those numbers. And, frankly, I suppose you could call the car manufacturer "recommendation" a "minimum pressure" amount, too. So, really, it's a matter of choosing what works best for you, within the car manufacturer's "minimum" pressure and the tire manufacturer's "maximum" pressure.

All that said, Toyota's recommendation for the SE V6 is 32 psi, front/rear. I was happy with the ride at 32 psi, but I tried 36 psi for hopefully a bit better mileage. I didn't care for the stiffer ride, though, so I bumped it back down to 33 psi, which seems to be OK so far.
