The only time it will help is if you have detonation issue.

From everything I have looked into and heard, there is no significant benefit for choosing anything higher than 87 on a car that asks for 87. As others will most likely agree, it is only necessary to use higher than 87 in cases where the car asks for it, if there is a mechanical/computer problem that causes pinging, or you are running mods like a supercharger/turbocharger. Otherwise you are just throwing money away.

FYI, this doesn't mean that there are no actual benefits. Theoretically, a higher octane may allow your engine to burn off a few more engine deposits or provide you a very slight performance boost. But overall, those benefits are minor.

No, it will not offer a performance gain under normal conditions.

Yes, it's a newb question. Right at the top of the Gen 5 & 6 Camry section there is a thread that asks newbs to read it. If you had, you could have performed the search that is recommended and probably came up with hundreds of threads regarding this topic.

Actually, the higher octane fuel burns slower and has a tendency to leave MORE deposits in the combustion chamber and exhaust.

The Camry will not get a performance boost either.

I used to buy 89 for my car, but with $4/Gallon here in Cali, I'm going back to 87. So far I don't feel any difference.

The only difference I see is the $$$ on the receipt

Thanks for the correction, I did not realize this was the case.
