I have an 07 LE and I have a question. Can a built in garage door opener be added as an add-on or does it have to come factory installed? My garage door opener just wont clip on to the sun visor because the visor is so thick. I've tried finding/making a clamp in order to get it to stay on the visor but it just doesn't work. I sure wish I could get that homelink or whatever it's called installed - it would be a lifesaver!
Do a search for gentex mirror here in the gen6 forums, there is a seller who has gentex mirrors autodimming with compass and homelink at very very good prices. The install is easy as well.
Cheapest if you can find a place to mount it, is to buy a homelink sunvisor from any car on EBAY, cut the Homelink unit out and install where you want to with 12V power.
I just velcro'ed my opener into the sunglass holder under the mirror. I have to open and close the door to use the opener, but it is out of sight when the door is closed.
I opened my garage door opener and connected some speaker wire to the two contacts for the button. Then I put a momentary switch at the other end of the wire.
I then hid the garage door opener and button somewhere easily accessible but hard to see. It still runs off battery, but w/e, it still works. Then again, this was 6 years ago.
I used to use double sided tape and just stick the opener to the very top of the windshield. It's tinted dark enough not to see from the outside and is actually quite hidden from the inside.
What I did was take the case off my remote so it would fit in the coin drawer. Then I soldered a mini monentary pushbotton switch to the switch contacts, drilled a hole inside the handle slot of the drawer and mounted the switch in there. You can't even see the switch because it's recessed back in the handle hole. When I get home I just reach in there and push the button, don't even have to open the drawer. The PC board for my remove and the 9v battery fit perfectly in the coin drawer side by side.
You can get the panel mount mini monentary switch at Radio Shack. On my remote I just looked on the PC board under the switch and found the solder points. I shorted the two that looked like the ones with a screwdriver and sure enough the door opened. That let me ID what points to solder the wires to.
