Gen6 School me on "Hub Centric Rings".

I'm about to get some new rims for my Camry.

Are Hub Centric Rings required? How do I know?

If they are - What size do I get?

Thanks in advance.

Are Hub Centric Rings required? - Yes, if the hub cutout diamater on the rim is larger than your hub diamater on your car. W/o the hub centric rings the wheel mounting only is centered by the bolts, which is not good enough to properly center the wheels on the hub.

How do I know? - Often the mfg gives that number or at least on what cars they fit.

If they are - What size do I get? - They need to fit the hub diameter of your car. I think Gen6 Camry has 60.1mm

Thanks in advance.
You will need to find out what hub diameter size your new rims are and make sure they fit - either directly or by using a hub centric ring to make them fit. I think the new Camry diameter is 60.1mm. Most online rim shops sell the hub centric rings together with their rims to fit your car (like tirerack, discounttire...).

Edit: tried to answer each question...

The centrebore on the rims is 73.1mm.

I can't seem to find a 73.1 O.D / 60.1 I.D. ring:

I just ordered two spares from tirerack - for free. Tireracks hubcentric rings are plastic and one of mine broke or got lost (tire shop wont tell) when changing to summer tires. You can tell them what you need and they might do it free (if you are already a customer) or charge a small amount.

The hubcentric rings that I got from Discount Tire Direct are aluminum.

I also was a bit surprised seeing the plastic rings from tirerack...but it serves the purpose of proper alignment during the mounting.

I wonder if the plastic will last.

The only real danger is when changing tires/wheels - they appear to crack easier if you are not careful. Other than that, I do not see an issue - after mounting they do not really have a purpose, don't they? Tirerack send replacements for free w/o asking and very fast.
