Anytime Reverse Camera Mod

I got this idea from the Honda Pilot forum ... but adapted to work w/ Gen 5 Navi Units in Toyota.

Using Radio Shack Parts:

1N4001 Diode - Part #:276-1101
Rocker Switch - Part #: 275-693
18 Gauge Wire

We use the tap into the reverse signal wire going into the navi unit w/ a diode and 12v (powered through a switch from a ACC Powered source @ the navi unit)

The diode is used to prevent 12 going back to the computer and to the reverse lights ... so that the only thing that receives power from the switch is the REV signal to the nav unit.

I am going to replace the switch w/ a toyota switch so it looks better, but this works for now!

I will post pictures this weekend ... it was dark last night when I was finished.

Oh ... I'm far from distracted! This is more of a novelty than anything else ... I will be using this on occasion when I want to see who's behind me, or if I feel like people are too close in traffic, etc...

I'll just look in my rear view mirror for that.

Eric.

So this is like a rear view miror while you're driving? I thought this was a backup camera for when parking or something and its shown on the navi screen.

I already did that about a year ago ... click the link for backup camera in my sig text. Use an Eclipse BEC-105 connect to pinouts in factory navi harness, and shows whats behind you when in reverse.

I now took this another step further and added the "Anytime" functionality via a rocker switch that I installed in the empty space below the mirror control ... as if you were reaching down to pop the hood release lever.

Thanks for the link. Too bad I'm not handy when it comes to these things. Maybe I can find someone to install it if I did decided to do it.

You should mount the camera in the trunk's key slot.

anyone has a picture of their backup camera mount in the rear ?
Crutchfield offer a license plate with camera built in, but i think it is just so easy to be stolen away.

With a little 3M tape and intelligent ingenuity, it will look like a very clean install. Then you don't have to worry about it getting stolen or having a cheesy license plate.

Who uses the key to pop the trunk now days? Pretty much nobody. We all ise the little button on the key fob.

Actually... my friend ... those of us with the smart key ... the keyhole on the trunk is the way to lock the trunk from the valet, as you give your smart key (Less the metal key ... it clips out) to the valet ... that's the only way to lock the trunk is to physically do it with your key inside the smart key!

Well then turbo...

Too bad my quote about mounting the camera in the key slot was for stagius24 since he asked about 5 posts ago.
