Question 2005 Camry Tranny Filter...

I am used to maintaining my Corolla (stick shift). Easy to do.

We recently replaced the wife's 2000 Buick LeSabre Limited with a 2005 Toyota Camry LXE. We love the Camry. However, now I need to understand the Camry. For starters, I have a couple questions.

What all is needed for a transmission fluid and filter change? I plan on dropping the pan.
What is the best brand of filter? And, any pointers would be helpful.

I plan on switching to Amsoil in the engine and tranny. Is anyone else using Amsoil? I've done so in my Corolla with great results.

Also, I'd like to change the air filter to a TRD or K&N. Which do you recommend? I'm using K&N in my Corolla.

I'm sure I'll have many more questions.

Thanks!!!

Welcome to TN.

I'd just do a transmission drain and fill. For that you only have to remove the drain plug in the transmission pan. If you insist on dropping the pan, get OEM Toyota parts.

Amsoil doesn't meet the GF-4 oil specification or Toyota's Type IV transmission fluid specification. Amsoil states on their bottles that they recommend it, but Amsoil never states that it meets those specifications. For that reason, I don't trust them. I use Mobil 1 oil and Toyota Type IV transmission fluid.

TRD and K&N are similar but the K&N recharger kits are cheaper. I have a TRD filter in my Camry and a K&N in my Formula. The TRD filter fits perfectly.
