Gen6 How to lower the glovebox

sorry for starting a new thread (search didn't come up) I wanted to check the cabin air filter but i couldn't open the glovebox fully. I got the outside side to drop but the other side was too tight. the owners manual said to use pressure but that doesn't seem right.... thanks

I GOT THE BIG LATCH OK-FINE-NO PROBLEM. but the upper one (window side) is too long to pry it out. stupid owners manual is useless for this one - it shows you grabbing the TOP CENTER of the inner of the glovebox and PULLING IT OUT ya that'll work, if you wanna SNAP the damn thing in half

Are you trying to change the air filter ? You take the little damper on the right off the peg on the box. Then you squeeze the box in the center. The back of the box is thin and will bend. As it deforms the two back corners will start to pull inward such that the stop pegs molded into the back will clear the edge they normally catch on. They may scrape by but that is OK. After those clear the box will swing all the way down on the hinges. This is all you need to do to access the filter cover. If you want to remove the box then you will also need to pop the hinges out of place by pulling forward.

When putting it back look under there and make sure the hinges are not poped out any, squeeze the box again and snap it back in. Then pull the damper and hook it back over the peg on the right side of the box. If it doesn't close right get it back out and check the hinges again.

IMHO, it takes a LOT of force to get it to drop down. I was very afraid of breaking it, but decided to just push/pull very hard and it finally dropped. I'm surprised this is the best way they could come up with to drop the glove box.

I think getting in forth knox is easier than this. thanks all

(self hi-jack) I have a question about something else. sometimes when i hit a hard bump like a pot hole, the plastic clips (looks like a short nail) under the hood of the gauges gets loosed, which rattles everytime you go over any bad road surfaces and you have to pop it back in. just wondering if this has happen to anybody...

It's funny you mention that. It has happened to me about a week ago. I took some needle nose pliers to pull them out, readjust them, then popped em back in and haven't had any problems since.

haha it's funny, i just cleaned my cabin air filter.

first latch is easy but the second was impossible. the manual was stupid, using that much force would break the damn plastic. I jsut squeezed my hands in and removed it without any probelms. get someone with small hands!

squeezing your hands to unhook the second damper or did you just remove the filter w/o the latches?

Don't forget that before you reattach the 2 latches, and that spring, you need to make sure the bottom hinges is popped in.
