No, they will not cover it because the plate wore through the paint causing the rust.

It's not a factory defect. There was an outside cause that the manufacturer wasn't responsible for.

Or if the dealer installed the license plates?

The dealer screwed mine on before I ever left the lot.

Then I would say you would need to take that up with the individual dealer. It would not be Toyota corporate's responsibility, but rather that particular dealer. If they are an upstanding dealer and their aftermarket frame caused the problem, they should make it right.

Yeah, I guess....hope the OP has a good dealer if he installed the plates. If not, well, he is on his own.

The dealer and the manufacturer are not the same. If the dealer caused the problem, they're at fault and should handle the problem internally. Toyota wouldn't be obligated to pick up the bill under warranty. New Toyotas don't come with license plates.

I have rubber insulators behind my plate to keep the plate from rattling or causing any paint damage.

took it to the dealer looks like toyota is going to cover it as it is rusting from the inside out. they've sent pics over to toyota head office to get the ok. otherwise it's a $700 fix.

edit: i'll take pics as soon as my camera battery is charged.
