Gen6 ASL JBL Premium Update ???

After my latest business trip where i drove a G6, I really decided i like the ASL features .... RDS is eh to me.

But anyway, I really wanted to make my ASL work on my system. So I searched around earlier, and never really found an answer, so i figured i would make my own post.

Has anyone figured out how to get a dealer or corporate to fix thier ASL ?
I am fast approaching 36k (about 3k to go) and i wanted to get it in incase they will just swap out my unit, since it is not working correctly.

has anyone gotten the ASL to work if they previously were unable to you it ?

let me know if anyone can help me out with some ammo for my next trip to the dealership .....

thanks

You mean the automatic, speed sensitive volume adjustment control on the JBL? So, yours never worked or does not work correctly?

Don't think my car has this auto volume adjust at high/slow speed. I find myself having to pump up the volume myself.

First of all, if ASL is actually not working, then you should get the head unit replaced under warranty as it may be an indication of a bigger problem. Have you tried disconnecting your battery for 10+ minutes, then plugging it back in and seeing if the ASL works properly? Something as simple as this may fix some weird problems like what you are describing (sometimes).

Secondly, ASL works fine with the stock stereo systems (non-JBL or with JBL), but if you have a quality aftermarket system, you should disable ASL. I work with a couple high-end stereo system companies that specializes in studio-quality sound systems for cars, homes, etc., not the bass-pumping systems you find on most cars. Their goal is to provide a studio quality experience. After installing their sound systems, they always tell their customers to stop using ASL because all it does is pump up the treble and bass as you increase speed. You will find that on a quality sound system, this ends up completely distorting the sound and kills the accuracy of sound reproduction.

Like I said though, if you have a stock, or near stock system, having ASL enabled will probably not make much of a difference.

it has never worked ....
tried it in park, reving the engine.

tried it while driving.

tried it for extended periods of time to see if it needed time to adjust ...

thanks for the overview.
i actually am a audiophile myself and have been now for some time ... so i know about how the ASL works.

basically you can liken it to the gain adjustment on an amplifier. thus why you don't physically see the volume numbers increase. Distortion is always going to happen with ASL, but to most people they will not be able to tell the difference, and it will seem "louder" to them. ....

i left this car stock tho since i have some other prioirties right now, and since i might be giving the car ro my wife shortly ... so it would be nice for her to have.

...no, it should just work w/o time to adjust, but only adjusts volume when you drive (not in park rev'ing). I assume it is enabled and you checked that? I agree with one of the posts above - Toyota dealer will not fix that but simply replace the headunit if it is still under warranty.

Mine works fine. The only time I can actually notice it, is if I turn it off while I am driving on the highway with the volume turned up reasonably high. I notice a decrease in overall sound output (mostly treble) when I disable it. Especially if the windows are down, since it uses a mic (not speed sensitivity).

I've got the same issue with the ASL on my JBL too. In addition, there are times when the volume knob does not work at all except when I push it to power the stereo off, I can spin the volume knob all day and it won't work, other times it works just fine. Also on the radio station/track information, I cannot for the life of me get the info to pop up, I've heard people say that it only works when the car is not moving (i.e. in Park) but sitting in the car the other day waiting for my wife to come out of the store I didn't see anything display on the stereo display for the entire 10 minutes I was sitting there in Park.

Conclusion = The JBL system sucks and is not worth the premium they charge for it. I should have opted for no radio period and put the savings into something that actually funcions to expectations.

well mine works fine too - at least for the ASL. I have the Nav option though.

The only thing you can do is ask for a replacement within warranty.
