Hello all. New to the forum - just bought my wife an '09 V6 XLE and have had it for about 3 weeks. Took it out last night in a heavy rain and at times it sounded like water hitting a tin roof the noise was so loud. Went to a gas station and water was coming off the pump area overhang in a steady stream and hitting the roof - heard the same noise again. This is my first Camry but have had many cars and never heard noise like this before from water hitting the roof. Just wondering if others on the forum have heard this and if it is typical for a Camry.
Other than that - it is a great car. No rattles/squeaks and drives real smooth.
Practically every car I have owned sounds like this in the rain, depending on the size and speed of the rain drops. Larger, fast moving drops seemed to cause this type of sound on my 07 Camry, 00 Civic, 91 Civic, and 01 Accord. The only car that I have owned that didn't have this sound is my 00 Camaro because it had t-tops and very little metal, mostly glass and plastic on the roof. In lighter rain, I don't seem have this tinny, sound...
totally agree. same thing with my '00 T/A WS6, no rain noise on t-tops. '08 XLE is a different story, rather noisy, but better with sunroof door closed.
Good to see another Fbody lover on the board. I used to have a '99 WS6 T/A convertible and currently have a '95 Formula convertible.
They're strange cars. In the rain it sounds like rain hitting thick canvas...
Wow, 2 jokes in one thread is almost too much to handle.
Seriously, though, I bought brand new a 1998 Z28 conv in navy blue, and a gray-green 1992 RS V8, which was my 1st NEW car ever and nicely loaded @ $15.2k
I heard there was a TSB on this problem. Forget the number, but the dealer will apply a generous coat of Gorilla Glue to the roof of the car; then afix a suitably sized mattress.
