5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Had a good search through the forums trying to work out how to rid myself of the seatbelt alarm chime.
Tried the key on and press and hold the odo button with no joy.
Asked the dealer and they said it was designed so it couldn’t be turned off.????
The method that worked for me was to get a small rare earth magnet (under $20) and place it on the switch housing just below where the seat belt buckle clips in. (Unplugging this switch disables the air bag.)
Any body else have a better method, our vehicle is a Toyota Camry Altise Sedan (Built March 2007 CV 40 Series)
No opinions please on whether we should or shouldn’t, let’s keep this thread to ways that it can be disconnected.

Your magnet idea is stupid.
Bring the car to the dealer and show them the page in the owner's manual which states that it CAN be disabled.
Congrats on making the 5,000,000 th seatbelt chime thread...
Although, one thing the dealer didn't mention, and that I didnt know....
If you take it to the dealer to have the chime turned off and you later on down the road disconnect your neg terminal from the battery, it resets everything and the chime is back. I thought it would stay off for good.
I won't waste the time....I will keep the chime.
Time for more mods!!!

after u hold the odo button did u plug in the seat belt?
the menu should show up if u did.
This doesnt work on the GEN6 models...it has to be disabled at the dealer using their Toyota specific scantool. (intelligent tester? I think its called)
The actual speaker for the chime is located behind the gauge cluster, remove the gauge cluster an break off the small black round speaker. Accomplished this in Dec. of 2006. It's an easy DIY.

Or you can buy one of these like I just did about 5 minutes ago:
