Speaker Question....

I'm going to change my lame OEM speakers with some quality ones. I have no idea of what brand to buy because there are so much brands to choose form that I don't know which one to choose. Anyways I was told that Polk make excellent speakers. I was planning to buy the
Polk Audio db691
6 X 9". Will they fit both on front and rear? Or I'll have to buy some 6 1/2" for the front? I know I'll have to buy some adapters anyways for them to fit But what about the depth?
Any help will be appreciated. Also recommendations of any other brands and/or models.

I read somewhere that our speaker openings have limited depth. I took this to mean that shallow mount speakers are required unless you want to go the route of building a baffle to allow a deeper speaker to fit. I havent yet changed the speakers, so hopefully some others will chime in. Good luck!

I've heard good things about Polk, but haven't heard them lately.

Just as an alternative - does Boston Acoustics do car audio?

I changed all 4 speakers to JBL. You will need the adapter to fit because aftermarkets speakers are much deeper than OEM.

Yes the depth is different and you will need adapters, what will happen if you don't is when you close the trunk the bar that swings inside will hit the speaker. (Gen 6 Gen 5/5.5 is fine)
Polk is good I have two subs from them and the quality is very good with a sealed enclose, not sure about speakers but should be good as well, Boston Acoustics is good also not sure about it price wise since subs were a little out of my range when I bought mine, personally for speakers I have 4 Alpine type R's and had them for almost two years running with an amp and have had no problems and really good quality (besides me overpowering them and blowing one of them once I've had no problems lol)

Now do you only plan to replace speakers and thats it or are you considering the unit and amp as well? If you only replace the speakers with noting else don't expect too much of an improvement just a heads up. Maybe read about it a little more and complete set-ups. Also there was a list thats updated circulating around forums and google or reputable brands for amps/subs/speakers separately and what each company is good for try to get a hold of that if you're looking for alternatives since sometimes forum threads can be more bias since you only get a very limited opinion.

Good luck!

i got the 4 6X9's powered off just a new deck. but i will say my dad has the same infinitys in his tacoma with the stock deck and it sounds much better then it did...not as good as it would with a new deck but they will definetly take more then the stocks. i use my old stocks as a garage system and they sound pretty good still.

the polks sound pretty good
ive heard almost all of their speakers for myself, and in the end, the 6.5 inch coaxials are actually the best, in my opinion, for the db series.
the slim series of the 6.5 inch coaxials fit perfectly within the door, but u will need a bracket.
as for the 6x9's, the depth of the speaker is a problem for the doors, but with a little work, u can get em in, but be prepared to start yanking stuff out of ur doors, lol
if thats too much work, then my personal preference would be the Polk Audio MMC 6500 component speakers, the ones made out of carbon fiber
those sound absolutely amazing, but the fact that its component requires you to find a spot for the tweeters, but in the end, its totally worth it, however, be prepared to pay a high price for the set; theyre fairly expensive
