5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Loosen the two bolts on the air cleaner cap sub-assembly and open the cover. Remove the filter, install the new one, reinstall the air cleaner cap sub-assembly, and tighten the two bolts.
Theres a post/thread on here on how to change the air filter. Also, there is a video on youtube on how to do it. Search for it.
I searched and searched but could not find the post/thread you are referring.
I am newbie who wants to work on my 2007 Camry I4 LE instead of taking it to the dealer for everything (at least for the little things).
I successfully changed my Cabin Air Filter and now want to change my Engine Air Filter. I tried finding it in my Owner's Guide but found no reference of a Engine Air Filter. I tried Air Cleaner Filter but no luck.
Could someone please post a link for the thread showing the steps? I am afraid of working on it on my own without some sort of guide.
PS: Is there a flame free newbie thread for Gen 6? I would prefer posting my questions there instead of hijacking a thread or starting a new one...

As per forum rules that is sticked at the top, it tells noobs to search.
Theres nothing wrong with doing it ourselves. I think everyone does to save money. So I give you credit for that.
Flame free thread? Theres no such thing. But I also give you credit for posting in a thread that is already available rather than make another thread. Your question pertains to this thread and is not considered hijacking.

As a newbie (I am sure like a lot of new members), it would great if there is a place to ask questions and not get flamed or laughed. The questions may seem stupid to the experts but for us it might be a major road block. It will also not clutter the main forum.
If a issue has not discussed before and will help everyone, a new thread can be created.
Any way for a senior member to start one? I saw the Gen Sign in thread. Maybe a Sticky Gen 6 Newbie thread?

This is all a noob needs to know. Search before posting. Whether its a sticky or not, noobs wont see it (see...you asked for a sticky, its posted and you didnt even see it). We dont mean search once and thats it. Try different keywords whether it be 1 word or multiple words. If after all options fail, than post the question. It might be posted already and you might of missed it during search..thats fine. Noobs think, I'll search once, cant find it, post it and think someone will tell them. When someone says search, they get all defensive and pissed. Thats how forums are..whether it be TN, music forum, game forum or any forum. Not everything is spoon fed.
Everyone is a newbie whether it be with cars or forums. Eventually, we all learn. There is always going to be stupid questions but its a matter if its been searched before being asked. Considering the car has been out for a while and majority of the basic knowledge applies to all cars, it shouldnt be that hard.
As for the air box. Just go to your car, open the hood and look for the 2-3 screws. Get a screwdriver, take those screws out, remove air filter, replace with new filter, put back screws and done. If you know how to turn a screwdriver, thats as hard as it gets. The amount of time you wait, you could of done it yourself. You cant learn if you dont find out for yourself.
I'm not handy myself as I'm the type that is afraid to break things as this is my first car that I call my own. But I do my own oil change, changed my air filter, changed my interior light bulbs, swapped taillights and headlights and even put on my TRD exhaust. I even soldered for the first time when I made my cathode kit for my trunk. All with the help of DIYs from the forums or friends.
If you can include a few instructions along with the pics that would be awesome.
Thanks!!
Alright, here it is:
Here's a view of my I4 engine bay with the airbox on the top right side.
Here's the first screw that you have to unscrew.
Here's the second screw.
Here's the 2 clips that lock the cover onto the bottom part.
Here's a closer view of the clips.
Now I'm not gonna take mine off again, but I will guide you step by step here.
After you unscrew the 2 screws, lift up the cover slowly, start from the right side (screws side), and work your way out on the clips, be careful not to break the clips / locks.
Or, you can just tilt the cover open slightly until you can see the air filter (you don't have to take the cover off completely), and take out the old air filter and put in the new one.
Make sure you follow the tab on the air filter itself, and match it with the airbox shape. You can't miss it, it can only go 1 way, otherwise you can't close the cover.
After you're done swapping the filters, just put everything back to the way it was (including the screws).
