Bumper Question

Hey guys, I have a pretty nasty gash in my rear bumper along the side where someone backed into the car with a trailer (that apparently had a freaking blade hanging off it or something??) before I got it. Will a bumper skin like the one in the link fix it? This seems like such a cheap fix it's almost too good to be true (even adding in paint and shipping, it's still WAY cheaper than I thought it should be).

thanks guys!

Go for it, but make sure you take it to a good body shop to install it. They can adjust the fitment for you.

Or if you can do it yourself...

I'm taking it to a local body shop here in town- my family is very close with the family that owns the shop, so they've always cut me pretty good deals ($50 to paint and install a roll pan on my truck seems like a good deal anyway, I didn't really get quotes from anyone else). I'll go to them for the work on the bumper also.

I just didn't want to buy this and find out later that it wouldn't work for some reason I'm not aware of.

just know that the paint isn't going to be a perfect match... they will just paint it to the factory color...

That sucks...is this pretty much standard practice in repairing a vehicle? I guess maybe black is easier to match, because they perfectly matched my black trucks roll pan. Then again, I'd rather have a slightly off-color bumper than a perfectly matched bumper with a gigantic gash in the bumper lol.

the paint on bumper covers will rarely ever be a perfect match because of the flex additives that need to be added. it doesn't even come from the FACTORY perfectly matched... at least on my car

Aftermarket bumper covers suck.

Get a OEM bumper cover.

How much is an OEM bumper cover, and where can I get one (other than the stealership)?

I had mine repaired at Service King and I'm very happy with the results. And yes.. after market bumper covers do suck.. don't even go there.

I had to replace my 07 SE rear bumper for $1200. Needed 3 pieces, upper bumper, rubber seal and lower SE only bumper. Not cheap.

But you replaced the WHOLE bumper right, not just the cover? Everything under the cover on mine is okay, the cover is just damaged. I think I might get the one in the link provided by njerald, I'll talk to the body shop and see what they say about it also.

A proper paint that matches and has the flex agent in it, will cost more than the parts.
