Put on rims, feeling vibration at high speed..?

Hey guys,

I bought some used rims/tires, not used much. Seller said they are balanced, i can see some weights added for balancing.

Put them on myself.

Bought hubcentric rings too.

Driving on the highway at speeds 95 - 120 km/h, I could feel shaking in the steering wheel.

What could the problems be?
- Unbalanced wheels
- Something from when I mounted them?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

you get your alignment checked after install?

Are the rims balanced?

have them balenced, then check alignment
the issue could be that you have a bent wheel if you said theyre used...or they could be cheap wheels too, and sometimes cheap aftermarket wheels cause a vibration

+1 Have them balanced. Put on a new set of rims have nothing to do with alignment.

Some wheels, no matter what you have done will never be right. I had a set of American Racing Nitros on my Ford Explorer Sport. I had every type of balancing and three alignments done and still had a shudder at high speeds. Sometimes changing tire brands helps but no always. Good Luck!

Thanks.

I assumed they were balanced b/c they already have some weights added to the inside, but it may be possible it wasn't done properly.... ?

They are used but with very low mileage. The guy who bought made a mistake and bought them for his S2000. Obviously, the offset was wrong and they stuck out a good inch so he had to sell.

i sorta had the same experience when i got my new set of 19" hiros. went through tire rotation, balancing, alignment, made sure hub rings were installed, etc. vibration went away when they tried a totally new set of tires.

Have the balance checked. At that time they can check the wheels for runout, tires for runout, and for road force variation (if they have a quality balancer).

Alignment has NOTHING to do with vibrations/balance.

Driving this fast could be the reason or it could also be the size of your new rims. The bigger the rims the stiffer the ride

Generally, faster speeds allow you to skip over imperfections in the road. When I drive 150 + MPH I don't feel expansion joints and small bumps.

Bigger rims don't make the ride stiffer. Thinner sidewalls do though.

95-120 km/h is hardly fast.

Find yourself a conversion table........

i feel this shake in my car right around 65MPH so basically same thing. they were NOT used and they were balanced when i got them, but it's weird cuz its barely noticable and it isn't on every road so i think it could just be that i notice the imperfections in the roads more.....

When I went to Phoenix earlier this month the roads were in incredibly good condition (just not when wet). I'm used to up north where the winters, potholes, and ice make some pretty nasty bumps and ditches.
