5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Last year I was driving an 05 Corolla, with all season tires, through the snow and that was a terrible experience! This year I will have a larger & heavier car, V6, VSC & Traction control and plan on buying studded snow tires. I'm pretty excited to see how it will drive in the snow.
I have noticed that a lot of people on this board are either from Canada or from the upper northeast and I was wondering how does your Camry drive in the snow? Thanks!

No problem in 6" deep snow with winter tires and VSC.
That's about the most we get here w/o heading to the hills.
Drive fine. 6" snow, VSC did turn on about 3 times but than it's OEM tires. And I go slow at corners/turns/exits. Snow tires is just too expensive and all my income already go into filling the gas.
Like any other car - you got to have the right tires. I have excellent experience with Dunlop Wintersport M3 (for FWD and RWD car) and Bridgestone Blizzaks (again, driven with FWD, RWD, and AWD). Even my AWD SUV did not do any good in snow w/o the snow tires. I don't think much about studded snow tires though - just good if you have permanent, deep snow - in changing conditions, they are bad.
It drives like a dream, haha
So far I did a winter with decent stock all seasons then proxes all seasons, which are meant more for the summer/spring/fall but did good no trouble at all and lowered still. Drove through the "worst" storms around here this year no prob, think you just have to get used to driving on snow/slush/ice etc and you'll be fine, ofc winter tires help a lot, yet to try them tho, no probs so far
oh yeah most fun is pulling the e-brake in the middle of a 4 lane highway during a storm :-D practice ur sliding around so u get the feel of the car more, well or you can use a huge empty parking lot but that's your choice lol
good luck
did great, but i have t/c and vcs, but ponit and go.
u just have to know how to drive in bad weather. most people dont.

Have the Traction Control disable method handy. Otherwise you will end up like me trying to get up a hill and unable to make it since the car won't let the wheels spin enough to try and grab a little.
Once I stopped and disabled the TC, I was able to make it up my street. Of course, if it wasn't for the idiot plow in front of me making me stop I could have had the momentum to make it in the first place.

mine drives like ass in the snow if i have the yokohama avids on....i have some michelin X ice's tho, and with those itll plow through most anything we get here
I bought my 08 SE in February when it was pretty bad in in the Spokane/CDA area (Great Dealer In CDA!) and was really impressed with how it handled the ice and snow. Obviously, it won't handle deep snow like my 4Runner did, but with good tires and sensible driving you can go almost anywhere. I went to a friends house on the South Hill a few times and had no issues with the stock Michelins. I had to bring it home to the Seattle area when they were closing the passes because of snow and avalanches and even though I-90 was like an ice-rink the whole way I never once doubted the Camry's ability. My wife couldn't believe how well it did. She has always had trucks and SUV's and still brags to everyone about the Camry!

Mine was great this past winter. You need to have good winter tires. I bought a set of Blizzaks and had no problem with our 10' of snow this past winter.
