? about speakers in the dash(non jbl) pics inside. 56K friendly
The sound system in this car isn't too bad, but the high end is way too tiny, and most of the high end comes out of the dash speakers. Would anyone have any recommendation on what to replace them with? I was thinking maybe the ones from a jbl? Also: I took the speaker cover off, and looked at them, but theres a wiring harness hooked up to them, and i dont know what its there for? Here are pics
Heres the harnes im refering to this is the actual speaker

I got a set of tweeters with high sensitvity (think it was 102 db) and connected them in parallel to the dash jbl speakers. The tweeters were small and came with a dash mount and were under 18 bucks shipped on ebay.
The cross over was inside the rubber covering on the wires to the dash speaker. Since the tweeter I got had a built in cross over, I connected it before the cross over of the dash speaker. THe results, I love it!. Pretty simple The treble is just great. I have to keep it at two or three max other wise the highs are way too high.
The wiring harness is for the signal to the tweeters. The speakers can't magically receive a signal from the radio!
My suggestion is to replace the front speakers completely and put a good 6.5 or 6.75 component set in the door. Forget about the tweeters in the dash. You can just disconnect them and leave them there or remove them completely.

well, theres only one way to find out.. and thats to unplug it and see what happens. lol
If you unhook the wires, then the speaker doesn't work. And neither will the door speaker because the tweeter and door speaker is connected in parallel but using some circuit at the tweeter as a bridge. You can use a jumper wire to bypass the tweeter.

I would put a full system in it, but its leased and what I change needs to be undoable

would high end speakers sound good on a stock head unit though?
How high end are you talking about? My components cost about $300ish but I got them intending to amp them. You could probably get a decent set for $200ish that will run fine off the stock head unit. I wouldn't bother with the back ones though.
I'm sure there are some people who have put components on their stock stereo, but I don't know who.
You do have a point though, there is a chance that aftermarket speakers might sound worse since you cannot defeat the equalizer settings in the HU that compensate for the (lower) quality of the speakers.
