Touch up paint paranoia

Ok, so a few months ago, my dad pulled my '07 Camry into the garage during a snow storm so he could clear out the driveway. In the process he managed to clip the side of the garage and put a rather deep scratch into my right rear door. So after waiting almost a month for the touch up paint to show up at the dealership, we finally fixed it up today, before it started to rust out any further. Now I'm a bit worried because what should've been dark grey metallic (1G3), the paint came out BLACK. I'm really truly seriously hoping that it's going to dry to at least closely match the color.. Otherwise I'm going down to the dealership and yelling very loudly. So my question is, is that normal? I know paint doesn't always look like it's suppose to until it's completely dried, so I'm really hoping that's the case. And in any case as soon as it's all properly dried and buffed up, I'm going to buy a door trim kit for it which given the position of the damage should cover it right up.

I'll go snap a picture of it for a more trained eye to look at.

EDIT: A semi-fuzzy picture of the "repair". Cell phone cameras FTW!!!!

That does look a bit dark. I always test the touch up paint on a place that no one will see first before applying it. From my experience with scratches on metallic paint... Your better off getting it spray painted on. This is to disperse the metallic little pieces evenly. It also should be the entire piece... so if it is a door, it would be the entire door. That is how they repaired my scratches. I tried the touch up paint with a toothpick for scratches but it will not match well and it is just the paint without the clear coat.

If it hasn't been more than 2 hours you may be able to scratch the paint off with your nails... I've had to be really careful and do this because the touch up paint made the scratch look worst than originally. Looks like it did the same on your car.

In your case, sometimes you may be able to apply a little touch up paint and wipe it off. For me it has filled in the groove so at least it wont be white. But that paint looks too dark... Could be the sun has made your car lighter color cause I have blue ribbon metallic and since I've had it, it has become more blue. And this is for minor scratches only of course...

I would only use touch up paint bottles for little nicks on places no one really can see, like the under parts of the front bumper from little pebbles on metallic paints.

Hope this helps...

I would remove that asap if it has not dried 100%... I'm pretty sure it will remain like that. If you are going to cover it with door trim then I guess you wont see it but still... I'd try to remove it.

yeah too late, it's pretty dry now. The trim should cover most if not all of it. It needs trim anyways to help protect it from idiots with car doors, and of course fathers who bolt into the garage with it. :P Now i just have more incentive to order the kit.

So I guess the next question really is, should I take it back to the dealership and tell them it's the wrong one, or leave it be? You'd think it would at least have been gray, even if it doesn't match 100%. I'm starting to think someone mislabeled the bottle at the plant...
