V6: Mobil 1 0W-30?

Well, I ran into this stuff at Wal-Mart the other day:

Mobil 1 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy synthetic oil.

http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Mot...l_1_0W-30.aspx

Supposedly absolutely OK to use in applications that specify 5W-30, like the Gen 6 V6. I bought some, and I'll use it for my next oil change, about a month from now.

But, what do you think? Does it sound good to you? I'm all for getting a little better fuel economy, if this might actually do the trick.

You aren't likely to notice much change in mileage but if used consistently, the engine will thank you by living longer.

I wouldn't buy it strictly for a gas mileage difference. I switched over at 500 miles and there was no noticable difference. The switch is a pretty expensive one and is like spending money to save money, especially if you are changing oil frequently.

I switched over to see the long term affect on the engine. I have a buddy who has my same year and it will be interesting to see how the different engines react to different oils. If I find not much difference over a long period of time, then I will probably never use it again. It is expensive.

It won't change anything. The warm weight is still the same, it's just pumps better when cold.

I use the Extended Performance since I don't like changing oil so often.

Well, no, I'm not using it just in hopes of getting slightly better gas mileage. I've been using Mobil 1 synthetic for years, so this would just be a slight change from Mobil 1 5W-30 to Mobil 1 0W-30.

It's really the "cold starting" end of things that I'm concerned about, since I have a commute so short that I actually drive home for lunch. So, that's four two-mile trips per weekday. And I sure like the idea of doing it with "0W" oil than "5W" oil.

That's exactly where the advantage is.
