Yes, I searched. I thought about you Njerald when I did, kinda cute huh <3?
Anyways, I was wondering if anybody had any experiences with the Garmin Nuvi 650 or just Garmin in general? I'm looking to buy a new one for $240 out the door. Please list pros/cons or overall experience. Thank you.

I have a Garmin 650. This is my first GPS device so I cant compare it with other brands. I also bought my sister a Garmin 300w. Anyways, screen is bright, volume is pretty loud. Touchscreen has no problems at all. Punching in addresses was simple and easy to navigate.
However, I believe this is common with all GPS' is the time it takes to connect to a satellite. Sometimes it can take a good 3-5 mins before it finds one. Sometimes in a split second. Mind you, this is in a sunny day.
One thing I dont like is the antenna. In order to get reception, you have to flip it up or off of the GPS' back. When its in the car, you can fold it back down so it is not in the way. Hope this helps. Got questions, let me know.

If you must have a portable unit, I would get one that has bluetooth antenna connectivity so you can mount and antenna elsewhere in/on the car and not have to worry about stringing a wire to get good visibility to satellites.

The 650 has bluetooth...for cellphone. When I get my Camry, i'll be getting Nav so the 650 would be useless for me. I'll be giving it to my gf to use in her Accord.

+1 I have the Garmin Nuvi660. It has the bluetooth feature. I use mount it on the radio screen so it out of the way when I drive. (I think it's kinda ugly when a car drive by with a GPS one on their dash.)
One thing I wish they have is a mute button readily available. (You have to go through a couple of screen to mute the volume)
I have my phone connects to the 660 via bluetooth and it works nicely.
If you want to test it we can meet for you to try it out.
My wife has the TomTom 720 but we both like the Garmin Nuvi 660 better. :-)

My GPS, I don't understand Y it won't lock in right away. I mean I can see it gets about 4 or 5 good strong signal but it still takes a few minutes to lock in the position when it turn on after 20mins off time.
If before that, it will lock in pretty quick (around less than 2mins).
So when I'm on my trip, I turn it on in the elevator heading to the car. Give it plenty of time to lock in the position.
I think the same happen with the build in Nav of the car, just it uses the car to get the location when the GPS lost signal or not lock in. So it feels like the car Nav never lost signal.

The 650 don't have bluetooth. That's why I bought the 660.

It will send you off on every stop and go tiny road with no gas or restroom for 100s of miles if you let it. Be sure to uncheck the option for unimproved roads. I've read that there is a way to plan your route on mapquest and then send to GPS and that works with the Garmin brand if you have the plugin from Garmin and the device is hooked up via USB to your computer. I haven't tried it yet but if it works that would be fantastic and the best reason to buy a Garmin brand GPS. What I've been doing on the last few trips is to ignore it till I get to the last mile of right and left turns so it doesn't send me through all the little towns. But if the mapquest thing works I'm going to be VERY happy I got a Garmin.
I used to have the Nuvi 650, 660, and 680. They're good... but now I have the Harman/Kardon GPS-810, which has all the Nuvi features plus a video player, and a wireless remote which comes in handy sometimes when you're driving, paid $250 OTD.
650 has TTS (Text To Speech), traffic (I think).
660 has TTS, Bluetooth, traffic.
680 has TTS, Bluetooth, traffic, MSN.
If fast locking speed is more important for you, then get a Windows Mobile phone with data plan and put the Garmin Mobile XT onto your phone.
A windows mobile phone with MS-Based mode enabled and connect to the PDE server, u should be able to have your GPS lock down in less than 15 secs.... of course the cost will be higher than a regular standlone GPS device.
Hey, how is the Garmin mobile XT? Is it as good as the nuvi series? Does it support widescreen? I'm thinking about getting one for my Nokia E90, since it has a built in GPS already.
peach u can't go wrong with garmin. i bought one for my dad and it works great. why not get the kenwood double-din nav with built-in Garmin? most of their nav units have them.
