I think this whole "energy absorption" thing is going to far. Things crumple and dent too easily. Whatever happened to the durability factor of a car? I mean, it is supposed to be metal, isn't it?
If I'd going to lay down $35000 for a sedan, I don't want to have to drive it around like it's a fragile Swarovski crystal vase or something!

For instance my previous '94 Camry was very durable, mainly the bumpers. I was able to plow through snow with very little to no damage, but now with my '07 even a little snow pile will mess up the bumper and scratch it all up.
I went from an 86 Caprice to an 04 Camry, so I miss the luxury of not really giving a crap if I hit anything or not, or if someone wants to sit on the hood; always going first at a four-way stop, towing overloaded trailers or other cars, jamming on the brakes to entertain tailgators etc. But I don't miss the $90 fillups everyweek.
