Need advice...warped rotors

I have an 07 camry LE my dad drives....23k miles. He's out of town and I am driving the car and noticed he has warped rotors, pads are plenty still, at least 1/2 pad left....I will take it in.....question....I know dealer SHOULD technically turn them for free...but should I insist on a new set under warranty....is there any grounds or reason for this? Thanks in advance...

You have no grounds for replacement as they should be plenty thick. Have the dealer resurface them.

Thanks for your input...rotors felt pretty smooth to the touch, but symptoms are there so it must be mildly warped....maybe the air wrench they use at the tire store (vs hand torque) had something to do with it....

The dealer just resurfaced all 4 of my rotors last month. They also threw in 4 new brake pads as a goodwill ofcourse.

That's usually the cause. Don't say that to the dealer though.

if you are using high quality brake pads i would just replace the rotors with premium slotted/driled rotors. if you use high quality semi-metallic or ceramic brake pads on low quality rotors they will warp frequently. I had a problem with my rotors warping every few weeks until I got rotors that were as good as my pads.

if you are just using regular old brake pads then resurfacing is probably the best option though.

Had the same problem at 25k. The dealer turned them under under warranty.

I had the same problem, from the same cause, at almost the same mileage (27K)...

I went to the dealer to see if they would replace rather than turn the rotors.

They said that they would only turn the rotors if needed.

I prefer to replace them, since they are cheap enough.

I bought Raybestos Advanced Technology rotors from rockauto.com for $39.00 each, swapped them out for the old ones.

Now my 07 SE brakes as if it were new.

I actually felt the warpage in the rotors (only on one).

I swapped both rotors out to be sure that I got rid of the nasty wheel shake at high speed braking.

It even got rid of an annoying slight squeak I was getting when applying the brakes at very slow speeds (like when you are driving through a drive-through at a fast food joint). Although, I suspect this is because I lubed the cr@p out of the brake pad shims and pad seating mounts...LoL

Regards,

Kahnh

The dealer does NOT owe you a new set since this is a wear and tear item.

My front rotors had warped a couple of months ago. I had my mechanic re-surface them and the vibration has since disappeared.

Warpage are very common on hilly, mountain areas.
My Uncle who lives in Ranco cucamonga always have this problem on his Civic.

What have the type of streets you are on to do with the idea of warped rotors...just because your uncle needs to brake down the hill does not mean the rotors warp more likely out of a sudden .

Toilbet,
I didn't say this happened to him one time after braking.
He drives to LA twice a week and elevation changes quite a bit.
Doesn't also help when your doing 75-80mph on the freeway and donwhill comes up and mph jumps to 90.
Now he has to slow down gradually and not slam on the brakes or he'll get rear ended.
How much heat do you think gets generated on the brakes.

I'm not saying he gets his rotors turned every month. More like once a year where it gets annoying.
