09 Tach Backlight

Does anybody else notice on their SE that the backlight of the tach is slighly dimmer than the speedo?

Thanks.

I am not too sure if one is brighter than the other, but what I have noticed
is that both of mine seem to dim or brighten as I am driving. But since mine
is a 2009 like yours and I have only had my Camry for a few weeks , I am not sure if this is a self adjusting thing or something else. I'll check on my ride home from work tonight to see and post back tonight. Maybe some one who has owned a gen6 Camry longer than we have can chime in..... sorry I could not be more help.

Glenn

The dash will dim (instantly) and get brighter based on how much light the sensor picks up. However, when it is consistent light my tach seems like it is dimmer. I just hope mine does not have something blown behind it or this is just how the cluster is. I have only had mine a few weeks.

Tek,
I did check mine out on the ride home from work and both the speedo and the tach seemed to be the same and since its a rainy cloudy day my cluster
stayed the same (no sunlight). Since I have only had my car a few weeks I haven't even read through the owners manual yet lol........ Hopefully you don't have anything wrong.

Glenn

Ya I looked at another SE today. They were both the same. Guess mine has an issue.

So make this problem # 2 in 1 month and 1,000 miles. I had my master cylinder replaced at 150 miles.

I hate this car. I think I am going to trade out and take the hit.

I work for Toyota and I don't think I will buy another one.

I just checked mine, though it is an '08 SE I haven't noticed anything... that really blows about the master cylinder. I took mine in after about a month because my transmission decided to have a bit of fun while I was driving and switch gears constantly... I feel your pain.

Speaking about the transmission, mine likes to downshift at 22mph and then it feels like it is going to take off like a rocket. That is great if only I wasn't trying to stop. However, I am told it is operating "as designed".

I guess I should have used my inside knowledge of the Camry to avoid buying it, but I wanted to be loyal. Now I am stuck with a loan on a car I dislike. I did love it before these issues / design flaws.

I am just upset now, but not sure what the best action is. I can have the cluster replaced, but i am sick of having my new car torn apart to replace parts.

That does suck to have 2-3 issues with in 1000 miles, I would be pissed too.
I had a 1986 Corolla, a 1993 Geo Prizm 1.8 LSI (Toyota Corolla) Then I had a 1998 Nissan Altima which I totaled a month ago. All of these cars were great,
And I know Toyota was always known for their quality. Hopefully you can get these issues sorted out under the warrenty and not have anymore problems.
But for the short time I have been a member alot of members have stated how much Toyota's quality has gone down, hopefully they can work out the bugs in the gen6 Camry. Good Luck and I hope you get everything fixed the way it should be.......

Glenn

Yes its a sensor. Also the trip setting knob will give it super bright or dimmer. I have not noticed one dimmer than the other on my 09 SE either. Hmmm. (((Let me go out and double check))))..... I dont know. It may be just a hair dimmer on the tach side. But I mean barely noticeable.

That was one of the other problems I was having with the transmission and asked about it. Like you the guy said that is what normal that becuase everything (ie gas breaks steering) is by wire now (compared to my previous '95 camry) the transmission is anticipating the next step when you take your foot off the peddle. I got the other issues resolved and now having the car for 5 months have learned to control that downshift issue with easing my foot off the peddle not taking it off... you'll get used to it, I don't even notice anymore. Stick with the car though, yeah these issues suck (trust me I know) but at least it's under warranty, give it some time

If you inspect every stitch in the upholstery, every square inch of the paint and all your interior and body gaps maybe you can come up with more defects..................

..my right door was making a single squeak when opening it the other day. It never happened again, but I should take it to the dealer.

(sorry for everybody who has problems with their car, but sometimes it really is funny to read).

All my tach seems to be getting dimmer and dimmer. Now it is brown / blue. Any idea what the impact of replacing a cluster is? I remember back on my Grand Prix that they made a digit red on the odometer. Any idea if Toyota "flags" a replaced cluster?

At the least I know you need to take half the drivers side dash apart to remove it.
