05 SE: TRD Springs Blew out my struts (says the Toyota dealer)...
I had my regular scheduled maintenance done today at the toyota dealer and I had them inspect the suspention as I have been getting poping and creeking from the springs/struts lately. They said my struts are blown out due to the TRD springs.
I have only had the springs on for about 6 months and the fronts started poping almost imidiately but now the back started creeking over speedbumps recently. I posted a question about this a while back here:
Anyway, the dealer says I need new struts that are heavy duty to support the lowered car but its a TRD spring and I haven't heard of anyone else blowing out their struts within 6 months of install. Im trying to figure out what was the cause and what is the best solution. Do they make a heavy duty strut for the Gen 5.5? Are the springs shot too now since I have been riding on blown struts for the last 2 months?
Im tempted to just go back and get the normal stock springs and struts as I have just had problems with the sposed upgraded suspention...
Any recommendations on a smooth riding spring/strut combo?

it's inevitable once you lower the car, the shocks/struts are going to go shortly after. It depends on the driving conditions, on how long they last.
and no the dealership won't cover that under warranty. I'm not sure who makes shocks for the '05, but I'd stick with a name like KYB AGX as a front runner if they make it. Those have always been great when I only had springs and not coilovers in my other cars.
Eh, I didn't bring it up at the oil change, I figured they would have just said I need to make another appointment. I'm not sure what I want to do, I guess i'll wait until you get yours worked on and see if theres anything that can actually be done.

So where do I buy these KYB struts and since you mention coilovers... I don't know much about them. How do they differ from the spring/strut combo and would they be a better option for me?

The springs did NOT cause the strut failure. TRD springs do not void the warranty either.
I still love how the dealer I go to said that the only thing they can do about the clunking sound with my suspension is to put the factory springs back on.

how much will the OEM KYB struts run?
