I was in need of my annual state inspection, an oil change and some warranty repairs. I have 39k on the odometer but I bought the Toyota Extra Care Platinum w/$0 deductible.
Issues under warranty*
- Plastic 'tab' on center air vent/register broke. Unable to redirect air flow on passenger side vent (center register)
- TSB on rear bench seat leather (wrinkles)
- T-fitting on vaccum line dry rotted and broke
- slight flare 3rd gear and hesitation (both occuring on cold starts in warm weather...mostly)
- Front rotors seem warped (vibration when braking on the above 60 mph)
Well, nothing is covered under warranty except for the Transmission Control Module software load (new dealer location doesn't have set up operational yet but will in a week). All of these things 'broke' under the 3/36 but with my travel and work schedule I was unable to get them to the dealer and they weren't a priority. Talk about a mistake on my part.
The whole center air register needs to be replaced to resolve the issue. $236 was the parts/labor price from the dealer. I have gone a year with it broken and may just search for one at the junkyard (plastic trim).
The vacuum line (plastic fitting) was quoted at $186 parts/labor. I think this fitting is removed when I get around to installing the K&N SRI that has been in my trunk for a year, so I will wait until I do that and see if I need the part. If so, I will install myself.
Front rotor is warped, and the rear rotors are damaged due to the rear pads being completely worn (metal to metal). How does the rear pad get so worn before the front? Don't the rears only do 30% of the work?? Anyway, they said the rotors shouldn't be resurfaced because they are thin and not much would be left afterwards (something about Toyota using thin rotors). Anyway, as stated in the other thread
Anybody has experience with rotorpros? , I am going to get new rotors and pads all around. I threw on some cheapo "house" pads at my local shop just to get things safe.
The point of this thread is...BEWARE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. It doesn't cover a lot of things and isn't an extension to the bumper/bumper (even those reported during the 3/36 period). At the end of the day, it seems to basically be just a powertrain warranty since it really only covers "hard" systems like the transmission and metal engine components. I am seriously considering getting a "refund" on mine.
*Under Warranty is my incorrect assumption that was "corrected" by Toyota
