5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I need new tires on my car. The stock tires are Toyo 215/55 17-inch. I can't afford new wheels yet, so for now I just need a new set of tires. Besides for only having about 15k miles on the tires (which seems pretty low for a Camry of all cars), the performance was good in both dry and wet conditions.
My tire shop (Tucker Tires in Mission Viejo, CA) suggested Falken 912 tires as a reasonable replacement for a total $450 installed for all four tires, out the door. Consumer Reports, user reviews, and personal research seem to indicate the Yokohama Avid V4s seem to be a good choice.
I am looking for a good balance of price and performance; mileage/overall life is important but slightly less than the other two factors. What do you guys suggest??
That is a good price for the Falken 912. The Yokohama Avid V4 will be more expensive than $450. Go for the Falken since treadwear is not a big factor for you.

what size are you looking for?
yeah the falken 912 is a good compromise and they are cheap too.
toyo proxes 4 is another good alternative
kumho ecsta asx
general exclaim uhp
if you are willing to spend more than 450, id suggest you to go for Yokohama S.Drive, i've heard good things about them.
I love Toyo's - Proxes4 are a well performing tire and you can run them in early spring/late fall (not winter). I use them on my RWD. Should be around or below 100$ each for your size + installation. If you want a high performance summer tire, I would go for Toyo T1R. I have them on my Camry and love them.
Falken 912 are very good too, but their price range should be more comparable to the T1R or even more.
Last but not least, if you want cheap but decent performance - look into Khumo SPT.
actually tobeit, you might be thinking of the falken fk452 which is more comparable in price to the toyo T1R. those are both summer tires. the falken 912 is more of an all-season type of tire, just like the toyo proxes4
$137 x 4 = $548 (I'm waiting on some discount to knock this down.. this is too expensive)
I think I can go for another year with my OEM tires. Currently it has 42K miles on it.
Keep in mind, the Falken price is $450 out the door.
This Yokohama is $548 but that is not out the door. By the time you are done out the door it could easily be $650.

So.. for places that don't get snow, the FK452 might be the best choice (since I don't have the treadwear info). While the places that do get snow, the H4s/V4s is a better choice.
I'm trying to do my homework for the next good set of tires.
I am going to stick with the standard 215/55 size for now as it seems like a good size for the wheel. I'm in SoCal, no concerns about winter/snow for me The Toyos are what are stock on my car already so I was curious to see how other brands/models would work on the new Camry.
Tucker Tires said $450 total for the Falken 912 tires and $600 total for the set of Yokohama Avid V4s. The guy there seemed to guess that based on the 15k miles I got on my existing Toyos, I will probably get about the same with any tires of this size. His opinion was that the 912s were probably the best tires for me to get for the money as far as performance/cost/life just because the other tires aren't that much better for the money.
It seems the Falkens are probably a good balance of everything. Would you guys agree?
Would not be my choice (otherwise I would have them ). I tend to pay a bit more and get a high performance summer tire. If I would have to make pick for a budget of <$450, I would take the Khumo SPT.
lol if we were talking a different spec and size, and price, i'd take yokohama advan neova ad07 or michellin pilot sport a/s or the pilot sport ps2 but then again, $450 would cover just two tires i bet haha
Many people have told me to stay away from Michelin and Goodyear tires because they cost so much for minimal benefit (not because of poor quality).

I looked into the Kumho SPTs and they seem like a pretty damn good tire, but price is not anywhere near the $450 range. The ASX seems to be in the same price range, is that what you meant?
