5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
First time poster. My wifes car is an 2002 Camry 4Cyl. It has a periodic flashing A/C light and decrease or no performance when it does so. I called the dealer and asked for a magnetic clutch relay for A/C. Went to pick up the part and they had 90080-87026 waiting. My research shows that 90987-02022 (in the car now) was superseded by 90987-02028.
What is 90080-87026 for? Did they give me the wrong part?
Thanks, But is 90080-87026 the correct replacement? From what I have read on here it is not. I do not want to install the wrong replacement part and eat $70.
Though others may have contrary opinions because they are slaves to everchanging part numbers, the reality is that as long as it's the same voltage relay and the connections line up it will work just fine.
When this happened to my mothers car, I just went to a junk yard and pulled a relay from a Lexus, popped it in and problem solved.
These are just simple relays, so basically, if the voltage is the same and it fits, use it. You shouldn't have any problems.
I had the same problem this week. Replaced the A/C Relay with "A/C Relay Fctry" from Advance Auto Parts for $14.
But it doesn't seem to fix the problem.
The A/C will go full blast for a while, but then the "green flashing death light" starts in again.
Did I get a bum part, or is there possibly some other problem?
(P.S. I already replaced the air filter).
I would try another relay before moving on to any of the other mentioned possibilities. A quick and cheap way to find out if it's the new part you got that's bad or something else is to take out the High Beams relay and place it in the spot for the mag clutch relay. Drive around for a while and see how your a/c performs. If the light doesn't begin to blink as it has been, then you just got a bad part from Advance. If it does, then the problem is somewhere else.

Thanks for the tip. Any idea where the high beams relay is, in relation to the A/C relay?

Thanks again.
Ok, I swapped the A/C Mag Clutch with one of the two DRL relays.
The A/C worked fine (no blinking), and the DRL did not. (High beams did, however).
That made me think of when I encountered the problem with the new A/C relay: anytime I turned the temp from "full blast cold" to "medium cold," it started flashing.
I'll return the one I bought for a new one. If that doesn't solve it, is it possible that the $14 relay is just worthless compared to the $53 one? Why is there a price difference?
90987-02022, 90987-02027, 90987-02028, 90080-87010, 90080-87019, 90084-98025, 90084-98031, 90987-02012, 90987-T2001 and 90080-87026 are all interchangeable and can all be used. There is a lot of change up information, that has been changed over and over, etc, but they'll all work.
My 2004 Camry's A/C was intermittent with the green light flashing a few months ago, and as suggested by others here I ordered a replacement relay from Advance Auto ($14.00) and it's been working perfectly ever since. I was told that the original Toyota relay part number has changed numbers more than once. The replacement relay from Toyota costs about $60-$70, which I suspect is no better than the relay I ordered from Advance Auto.
Question though, I took out one of my DRL relays and installed it in the Mag CLT relay and my A/C works fine now, but question is what is the amp rating of this relay?
