Gen5 Steering Wheel Making Noise

Hey everyone,

For the past 3-4months my steering wheel have been making a lot of squeeky noise when i turn it (doesn't matter whether i turn left or right it makes a loud squeeky noise- sounds like twisting the wires?).

I drive a 2003 Toyota Camry LE V6 and it's got a auto-remote starter on it.

Can someone let me know how i can get rid of this noise? (lubricate it at which spot? etc...)

Apparently, the colder the car gets, the louder the noise. When my car is like totally warmed up (been driving for like half a day, the noise is not that big but there are still slight noises when i turn my steering wheel)

THanks! Greatly appreciated.

i believe the steering shaft has to be lubricated. there is a TSB out there for that, search for "intermediate steering shaft TSB"

You just have to lube the boot at the base of the column where the steering shaft passes through it.

Read the "Newbies read before posting" sticky at the top of the forum. This has only been covered five hundred fukking million times...

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin, it's not a part to fix your problem.

Look to the left of your brake pedal, you can see where the steering column goes through the firewall. Spray the rubber boot that the column goes into.

Grease works better than spray lubes.

Loosen the clamp for the grommet at the base of the shaft. Slide the grommet up the shaft. Apply grease to the shaft. Slide the grommet back down. Tighten the clamp for the grommet.

As I stated before, grease works better...
