Gen6 Can I remove transport hookpoints ?

OK, here is an odd one. Everyone is telling me get junk out of the car that adds weight for better MPG. Well, I have an 07 Camry LE and an 09 Camry LE and I noticed the 07 has these big (heavy looking) brackets by each exhaust tip and my 09 does not.

Do you think it's OK to just remove those things ? Here is a photo..

You must have a Japan built '07.

I took my rear hold down brackets off the 1st day I had it.

OK but may have an issue if it needs to be towed and pulled up the carrier ramp.

100 lbs may equal 1-2%

Yes- it's behind the little square knockout panel in the front bumper. I've never taken mine out, so I don't know if the front one is removable. Perhaps njerald knows if you can remove the front one.

There isn't one in front.

Just a threaded insert for an eyebolt..

Yeah.. I've seen that eyebolt in the trunk, I'm tempted to leave that thing at home too. I don't think tow services use any of that stuff.

really though, you're not going to save much gas removing a 2 lb item.

Yeah.. I know. I'm just looking for a project. Hey... I've got an idea. If I rig up a way to dip soap water on those rings maybe I can get my car to blow bubbles as it goes down the road. LOL !

In case you were wonering, im pretty sure the brackets are used to hold down the car for shipping from the factory. Toyota just left them on in case they proved useful for the owner probably

If I were you I would keep them, I'd sacrifice the 2lb weight if it meant I'd have an easier time getting my car free from a snowbank or something.

Going on a diet would be more effective for weight reduction anyways.
