I was searching the forum for old threads on costs of the warranty. I am contacting Troy from Toyota of Greenfield. Last I checked it was around 880. Does anyone have any other contacts for the warranty? Costs?
I got it and they gave me a pretty good deal, I'm not sure how much it cost but because I got it they lowered my interest rate and it made my payment only go up by 2 bucks or something.

I'm pretty sure it only covers powertrain. Engines, transmission, etc.
the platinum is like a bumper to bumper warranty. the exceptions are listed above by enjerald. If anyone is interested in this warranty they can go to the toyota website and look up all that it covers. You will most likely be surprised.
Don't these warranties become questionable if you don't have full evidence of all the required services?
Personally I think the extended warranties are just another way to lighten your wallet on a vehicle that will barely break a sweat passing 150,000 miles without major problems. Afterall, this is an insurance policy and they are in it to make money. They aren't trying to do anyone a favor.
It's interesting that Scion has a higher # of warranty returns than Toyota or Lexus.
At the end of the day it's a gamble. The odds with a Toyota are slighly better in your favor than say a GM or Ford where based on the warranty returns it's more likely you'll have a problem.

lets see if i can put a scenario that has happened to other people. with and without extended warranties.
This is only an example that has occured at the 05+Tacoma forum.
one of the guys had an 05 tacoma x-runner and the differential went out at about 50k miles. his repairs were a bit over $1000. he had the extended warranty and they covered it.
another unlucky guy had, what i belive, an 06 tacoma over the 36k or 3yr warranty. his a/c compressor was shot and repairs were going to cost him about $1500.
now if the second guy would have had the warranty for $800 with a $50 co-pay dont you think he would of had less of a hassle to deal with.
But wait, im not done.
Stevemr2t is correct and i fully agree that this warranty becomes a gamble. If you cant get repairs done before the 7yrs or 100k that equal the amount you paid for the insurance than you are screwed.
If you buy it and never use it, you get a refund. Just make sure to buy the one that says GPR.
I should know what it costs, I'm training for F&I at my dealership...i think everyone is different, toyota limits the price. 880 for a 7/100 sounds low...that might not be GPR. The Platinum Care we offer is a bumper to bumper minus wear/ maint. items and is refundable if you dont use it. we dont offer the "extended warranty" that's on the front of the brochure, we offer whats on the back (assuming you all have the JM&A warrantee).
