is it bad to have that shielding there? Since it seems like no air is coming into the intake.

Considering its included with the intake, I would think there is a reason its there.

I guess it is to help shield the exhaust header area? Looks like the setup in general will be sucking hot air.

There are openings on the side and bottom of the heat shield for the stock air intake to draw in air.

What are the differences that you have notice? Please let me know more details on the ride. I'm planning to get one also.

I can't speak for the OP, but I have one for my V6 Camry and although you really don't notice much of a performance increase (expected), it does sound much nicer at higher RPM's and the acceleration seems to be a bit quicker.

And to those who complain about DBW, the throttle plate actually opens up really quick as I can hear the sound when I quickly press the accelerator, it's almost instantaneous, it's the ECU trying to adjust the engine and trans that takes a while.

I noticed quicker acceleration and feel more power during 3,000 to 5000 rpm. It sounds awesome and combined with the TRD exhaust....200% happy

It should if it is working as designed. More air means more gas.

An intake system will help with gas mileage allowig the engine to run less restrictive.

It looks like the factory cold air intake ties into the front of the shield..............
