Gen6 After 19k 3-4 tranny flare appeared (V6)

Been lurking/reading now and again... but I've been super busy with pretty much responsibilities of 2 jobs. Regular day to day and own company activates.

Anyhow………….

Background

2007 Camry SE V6
04/2006 build
5 - 19k miles -- no shift flare
19k - 33k miles -- cold soak 3rd-4th shift flare 400-500 rpms

It didn’t get any worse as my mileage racked up, so I was not worried about it and it was something I could have lived with. Getting the flash done, I was on the fence as I wanted to make sure the fix was ironed out, as preferably I did not want to swap trannys.

Anyhow, I took the car in for other warranty work as well as to get the flash for the tranny.

First Impressions when I got the car back was:

Cold Soak – Shifting patterns 1-3 seemed lower, 3-4 a little higher in rpms
Warmed Car – Shifting patterns seem to happen at a lower rpm for all gears

So far in about 5 cold soak starts I’ve gotten no flares, so well see how it goes and I’ll keep an eye on it as I know it may re-appear later.

Overall, I’m very happy with the car and no regrets with my purchase. Other than 1st year issues (accepted that fact when buying the car), I got everything worked out under warranty and Bellevue Toyota in WA has been great to deal with. For the past 32k miles the only out of expense has been gas and some oil changes.

Roger

I had mine flashed last week. I think the flash makes the car hold 3rd gear longer. It seems to help reduce the severity of the flare. The problem is that it flares more often. Now it also flares during the 1-2 shift. They said to give it a week or so to relearn my driving habits but I don't think this will resolve itself.
