Modifications for Tall Drivers?

Does anyone have a recommendation for obtaining and/or modifiying a new (ie 2008/2009) Avalon (or Camry) to accomodate a tall driver needing headroom? My previous solution was to order w/o moonroof, but now Toyota together with other manufacturers include this as "standard" in their upscale trim packages.

Avalon Touring and Camry SE are the closests with moonroof as option (if you can find one), but still leave off some features for seemingly no good reason (no fuel effiency display for example).

Are there custom seat rails or seats that can be installed to make the seat lower?

How tall are you? I'm 6'7" and drive an '07 SE w/ a sunroof. I just have the seat all the way back and down. It works......

Inseam length could explain the difference. And his problem.

Exactly -- 6'6'' and only 34 inseam. Reclined not the best on the lower back for me, anyway. No moonroof adds about 2" which is (ie was in previous years) perfect, but not offered on premium trim options.

Adding a sunroof on a Camry lowers the front headroom by 0.9" per Toyota.

And the front headroom of the Avalon is only 0.1" more than the Camry.

Sounds like you need to find something with about 40" of front headroom.........

Well, what mostly comes to my mind would be "Highlander." Maybe the new Venza might have more headroom than Camry/Avalon, but I haven't tried to check the numbers.

As for Camry/Avalon, it seems to me that the Avalon seat cushion is SHORTER than the Camry cushion -- that should equal less thigh support for tall folks. Avalon Limited's thigh extender would be worth checking into, as far as that would be concerned.

Modifications to existing seats might be possible, but would take real hefty work like "cutting" and "welding." Here, for instance, is the "feet and track" mechanism from a Camry XLE seat:

That's front-to-back, left-to-right. You can see that there are "feet" that could get chopped down, but that's probably not even an inch.

Bottom line, if you need more headroom, it's probably best to just get something that's got more headroom.

yea i tried getting answers to this also but no one had any answers for me either. i wish our seats had the extender for the thigh support. not even half of my thigh is resting on the seat even when im sitting all the way back.

Ok, I would think this would be pretty obvious guys. Of course go with the sunroof. Just leave it open. INFINITE HEADROOM.
