5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Driving into work this morning, was merging from Route 2 to Route 495 North in MA when I ran over a pot hole - massive bang and my tire pressure light came one.
Pulled over onto the hard shoulder and I've got a flat rear right
Quick change to the donut and a long, slow 55mph crawl to work.
I just called around to get a new set of 4 tires, as I had 40k on the factories, so it's getting close anyway.
I have a couple of choices - Sears and some Goodyear Weatherhandlers LS for $650 installed, and Sullivan Tires with their Goodyear Assurance Tripletreds for $818 installed
I'm going for the Sears tires, due to the unexpected nature of the cost, and they have them in stock - I don't want to have to drive the 55miles home on the donut!
How far you got to go home on your spare? I would not buy any of these but place an overnight order with tirerack - for ~$420 you can get a set of Kuhmo SPT + tax, shipping and installation and it will be less or equal to $650 and you got a much better set of tires.

I've got 110miles a day for work, plus a road trip planned this weekend that will be another 200 or so miles.
I was planning my next set would be much better planned and purchased online, but alas, not to be

you get any quotes from any where else? anything with in 30 miles of where youre at?
It's happened on the worst of days when I'm tied up at work and can't get out of the office for very long - the only places in 10 miles are Sears and Sullivans. If this went this time next week, I'd have the holiday weekend to shop, but I'll have run up 1k on the clock by then, and I'm not doing that at 55mph on a donut

Than buy the cheapest set you find..but only two for the one axle and decide on a long term solution after your trip. If you like the 2 tires you buy right now, you can always buy two more..if they are not good, you only lost the cost of 2 tires.

i agree with Tobeit. i would overnight the set you want so that you can get it mounted and balanced tomorrow, in time for your road trip. i recommend Yokohama Avid V4S. only ~100 per tire and it has an aggressive tread but not too aggressive for the winter.

tobeits right. thats your best bet for right now. i 2nd that.
Btw, 110 miles/day to and from work is a lot - especially with the current cost of gasoline. How many hours are you on the road alone each day..2hours?
well here we have full size spares and i didn't know that donuts were provided down there, that's why i was curious why he rolled on donut spares.
check out the bottom, it says full size spare.
