Rear view mirror issue

This is actually concerning my new 08 Sequoia, but since no one goes in those sections, I thought I'd try it out here.

Anyway, I just got an 08 Sequoia SR5, and it's got the standard inside rear view mirror. The optional mirror was the self-dimming type with the compass, bluetooth and homelink and all that stuff - nice stuff to have, but I really didn't want all that stuff (i.e., I didn't want to have to pay for all that stuff).

My 07 Camry has the self-dimming mirror with just the compass, and I was thinking I'd like to have one of those installed in the Sequoia, since that's all I really need... but the dealer tells me they can't install one of those in a Sequoia, it HAS to be the other bluetooth/homelink mirror (to the tune of $350, plus $150 installation).

Is the dealer pulling my leg and just trying to get me to buy the more expensive mirror? (which ain't happening at those prices). Any dealers or parts gurus here that can shed any light on this?

Assuming that the Sequoia mirror isn't some special mount type, you can put any mirror you want in it. The dealer may not want to do it but someone will.

You can get a variety of mirrors on EBAY or on the internet taht will replace it.

There are all options in the mirrors and many available.

From what I can tell, my Sequoia's and my Camry's mirror mounts are identical - the dealer also said that the Sequoia wasn't wired to accept the Camry's mirror and installing one could void my warranty... again, he could be telling the truth, but it just sounds awfully fishy, like they just want me to spring for the ultra-expensive mirror and be done with it.

Thanks for the links, looks like this is something I'm gonna have to bypass the dealer on and do on my own.

Thanks for the links, looks like this is something I'm gonna have to bypass the dealer on and do on my own.

All you need up in the upper console area is a switched power source or you can run down the drivers A pillar for power.

I tied my radar detector into my moonroof power in the upper console and have installed a number of aftermarket mirrors/homelink etc. into the upper console area.
