5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey guys, I have an '09 Camry SE w/ the JBL system and I was thinking of getting an aftermarket indash navigation system but I have a lot of questions as to the feasibility, asthetics and the usability of doing this.
Are there any specifc indash navs that offer text-to-speech that go especially well w/ the SE Camry's silver trim? The Signature TCR one doesn't seem to have TTS, or at least I can't find it.
What happens to all the controls that are currently there, do they just get removed and covered over?
If I buy the nav at someplace like bestbuy or circuit city and have them instal it for me, do they just add a cover or do I have to buy that seperately
I also have bluetooth dialing etc on the car, would that still be intact if I get the nav and would I be able to use the dialing/voice buttons on the steering wheel?
What about Toyota's nav system, is it better to just get that and have it installed by the dealer or some other eletronics place?
If someone has something similar and can share their experiences and perhaps a pictures that'd be great.
i know crutchfield sells a steering wheel control adapter. if your aftermarket radio supports bluetooth than it should work with your phone if you can the controls to work on the steering wheel when u hit the answer button.
I heard the roadwire isn't too bad. It plays everything and has a lot of new features. Comes with a 3yr/ 36k warranty

Your local dealer or crutchfield...The one from crutchfield is made by Valor "Signature" and the one your local dealer should offer is pretty much the same thing just rebadged under a different name (Roadwire).

The last time I checked there is no steering wheel interface to work with the factory Bluetooth buttons on the Camry. PAC has a wired interface for some nav units with a wired remote input so that the audio controls work but like I said none for the factory Bluetooth.
You don't have a answer button on your steering wheel?

Of course I do, but like I said before there isn't a steering wheel interface that will incorporate the OEM Bluetooth buttons on my 2007 Camry to an aftermarket Navigation headunit. If you can actually find one and provide a link to it, great.
From Crutchfield's installation guide for a Gen 6 Toyota Camry with JBL:
"If your vehicle is equipped with a factory hands-free cell phone interface, it will be lost if the radio is replaced."
So there you go. Most nav units have their own Bluetooth module so if you need Bluetooth with an aftermarket nav you gotta use theirs.

...which all deal with the question regarding RADIO steering wheel controls, not the BLUETOOTH controls that the OP asked about.
