Oil change V6

I decided to try to do my first oil change. Its a 2008 camry se v6, with about 4000 miles on it. Followed all the steps outlined in that pdf file for the avalon oil change and even watched the youtube video for the oil change on the camry v6. Everything went well except that i could not get the filter housing out. I think it was overtorqued at the factory. I even used a filter wrench, bought at autozone, but could not get it out, i turned it counterclockwise, but to no avail. Therefore, i just drained the old oil and put in new motor oil. Will this have any effect on the engine? being that i did not change the filter element??? Just a curiosity, any comments would be appreciated

hahaha.. yes it is very hard to get it out the first time.. as some1 stated that they hired Robot Cop to put on these oil filter's cap.

I believe it is recommended to change oil filter every oil change but OK to change it consecutively. I wonder if we can tell how "bad" the oil is that came out of the car. Any oil change expert here can answer?

The oil coming out at 4k miles should be pretty clean and if you pull and study the filter you should find any small metal frags that got caught up after the first few miles and break in and wear. Mine had a minimal amount that I could see. Take it to the dealer next time and let them change the oil. In the mean time, save the receipt for the oil. Document the mileage on the receipt. Get the correct size wrench and try using it to replace the filter, again. There are discussions here about 'the wrench'.

You should change the filter also.

Some believe it is actually more crucial to change the filter rather than the oil itself....

The first oil/filter change, in my opinion, is the most important. The first few thousand miles are probably the most likely to introduce metal shavings into the oil. Since the oil filter will catch any sizable metal shavings, I would not be very concerned about the fact that you did not change the filter this time around. However, it is very important to remember that a filter that has caught a significant amount of contaminants and shavings will not flow as freely as oil flowing through a brand new filter. My assumption is that there should not be enough garbage in your filter right now that the oil flow or protection is significantly affected. Just make sure that you change the filter the next time around.

In the future, I would recommend changing the oil filter with every oil change. The small amount of money you would spend on a new filter each time can give you good piece of mind when it comes to protecting your engine!
